Foxx is right' date=' the proponents have all been recent ninja players, one of which habitually stalked others fights, studying them up, then assasinated one of the people involved.[/quote']
Since you decided to take a potshot at me, let's talk about the situation.
You were standing outside of your cabal, and fighting another person. You saw me, and could have hurt me significantly, possibly killed me. I lied to you, and told you I was studying the other person. You believed me. I'm surprised that a long time player like you hasn't learned yet that paranoia and complete distrust are what keep you alive in this game. The only time I ever fully trust someone is if I am in a non-couping cabal with them.
And before you try claiming that I gave you a "go to hell" full loot, I'd like to point out two things. One, I took one or two pieces of stuff from your corpse. Two, I played Sycophus 90% of the time in non-rare gear (oak, rings/rusted, and lightning spears). And three, about 60-70% of your rares crumbled, because this happened to be right after the rare change.
So before you go accusing me of being a proponent of this so that I can continue to stalk your *** and full loot you after getting my one-hit-kills, why don't you take a minute to think. I don't like being assassinated any more than you do, but I know that it is a valid part of the game, and that is why I have no qualms assassinating or picking back up after being assassinated.

You know, if that's what you've gotta do, then do it.

Idk man.. this is about half of a drunken stumble away from ganging. I'm not sure how I feel about it, I would just caution you to time it perfectly. No bashing whatsoever in here... just be careful.

I wasnt refering to you, though the kill you refer to is a good example.

I was fighting another person, a ninja is allowed to study you when you are in combat with someone else, literally ensuring a clean one hit kill for them. Another person would be reprimanded for fighitng me while I fought someone else, but you can study freely with no repricussions. You "fought" me by studying while I was engaged, then finished me off when I wasnt fighitng.
Distrust? paranoia? great, no wonder we cant get our playerbase to grow and stay grown. I try to avoid playing this game with that mentality. I do not want to play games that require such negative mental approaches to be succesful. I think I am succesful at this game without being that way.

Again, I wasnt refering to you. Though to make a point, assasinating someone who you studied while they fought someone else, then looting them has got to be the most vicious stinging slap in the face one can deliver in this game.

your choices for being a proponnent or not is your choice. I find assasinates to be the cheapest most underhanded lousy way to pkill in this game, hands, down. It requires little gear prep (as you pointed out), little risk, as you also pointed out since you can KILL me by lieing to me and hiding as I fight someone else. It also cannot be countered, as many others have pointed out.

The majority of people who have gotten this reply when they bring up a legit complaint do not play here anymore, why? hmmm..maybe the "harden up princess" stab at people runs off players...The entire ideology when applied to assasinates as one point, and full-looting as another seperate issue has ran off more people and caused more deletions of good characters than any other concept in FL. It is this attitude that kills our pbase.
Again I Say, the only solution people can come up with that really works is to "just log out" last I checked..we want people to PLAY our game, not quit.
To add, I just got assasinated for the third time in two days. Since it seems of all the enemies of one of my characters ninjas are all that ever login. I wonder why I continue to play the character. I have tried literaly every trick at my disposal, cross area running, poisoning, stunning, all to no avail. As was already pointed out in this thread if you want to avoid combat with a person..its pretty easy. I try to fight them, I chase them, sometimes land a few blows, but in the end I just get assasinated. This time I was awake, buffed, and not blind.

Damn, I love these threads. All this love going around.
No offense to Sycophus, but, from my standpoint I thought they were trash. They tried continually to kill an alt of mine for no conceivable reason, without so much as a word. They'd die, and come straight back, die, come straight back. IMHO this is a complete and utter disregard for life, and should be outlawed. I can only assume they were just hoping to get lucky and get an assassinate in. In the end I just decided to full loot/sac you every time. Didn't at all bother me really but seeing as the topic has arisen.
rolls a vampire
Ninjas, your $*(!ed.
...I lie. I've not alot of motivation or time to play anything. I do have another vampire idea that I find interesting though.
I am surprised noone has mentioned closed doors yet. EASIEST way not to get studdied it to literally shut the door on ninjas. I can think of dozens of places off the top of my head where you can chill out behind a closed door and make it impossible for the ninja to study you without risking death themselves. If there is a key even better, if the door is no-pass, thats a huge risk for the ninja, autosneak or not.
I was assassinated ONCE, a LONG time ago, when I was the noobiest of noobs. So yeah, ONE assassination against in like 7 years. That does not sound OP to me.

That is good, if you want to spend all your ingame time sitting behind a closed door.
Not to mention the flames you will be recieving from the ninja.
I don't have problems avoiding characters. This game is not about avoiding characters though, it is about interactions.

I agree, oooo you can either quit...or hide in a room...
thats great.

There are tons of classes I "avoid" at any given time, not just ninjas. It's not safe to be close to a thief or vampire either. You can still interact with a ninja regardless of where you are.
I'm not saying you should sit behind a closed door 24/7, but if you know you are being studied then go do that for a few ticks, then go to another one, maybe catch a round of combat with the ninja on the way to cancel any current study they have.
If you make it hard enough for them to study you then they will eventually give up and go after someone else.
I just don't get why it is harder to avoid a ninja that any other class you don't want to fight at a given time, especially if you are aware of the ninja.
...Or you can buy life-insurance, you can poison yourself, you can take the fight to the ninja. Assassination has been a skill since the code that Abandoned Realms ripped off (I forget the name of that mud now) and is only ever argued when a good player gets nailed.
I went years without being assassinated then got hit twice in a week by two different ninjas on two different chars...know what? Who cares!? I lost a few rares, big friggin deal! I think most players that play assassin ninjas aren't looking to be cock-heads about it...it's there for balancing reasons.
But seriously - life-insurance is also there for a reason. The point of the game isn't to be immortal.
Tired of it? Play a vampire' date=' or harden up, princess.[/quote']
Both of these points is exactly the mentality that's wrong with this game. And why we can't retain our players.
I lack motivation these days to argue and post as much as I used to so I'll just say Kyzarius said it best. I'm glad Imms haven't stepped in to lock or issue warnings in this thread because this is what used to spark my interest in my younger fl days
Assassination has been a skill since the code that Abandoned Realms ripped off (I forget the name of that mud now) and is only ever argued when a good player gets nailed.
Many skills have been around since I **remember **and only recently just changed. I.E. reflective shield, zerk paths, zerk relax out of panic, vamp skills, knight skills. Just because something has been in existence since the beginning doesn't mean it should stay that way. Hence why fl almost died a couple of times due to stagnation. Some of us have been here for upwards 7+ years. You can't expect us to have that same renewed dedication to the exact same game we played 7+ years ago.
Hence why there are so many Mario Brothers games. ![]()
How about assassination becomes a skill similar to energy drain but takes half of your hp and moves and the study is lost once you attempt it. It could probably be renamed then to shadow attack or something similar. It still gives a patient ninja a HUGE upper hand but it does not defacto win the PK for them.
Kyz said it earlier (i think skim read the thread) but i've always felt what would balance ninjas for me would be if you removed the ability to assassinate when your foe is awake - or at least changed it to a VERY VERY small %. I was assassinated twice by Skia back in the day on my Knight Invoker - both times poisoned - both times fully prepared - she didn't ever bother with trying to strangle - because just sitting in a room and spamming the assassinate was more effective.
I have no problem in FL with a skill that is counterable - if i get strangled and assassinated it is MY FAULT because i wasn't poisoned, but when i can get assassinated despite having done everything right - there is a problem.

This sums things pretty well.
While reading this, it has become derailed. This was about ninjas getting to keep study after logging, and has turned into the 'assassinate is OP, no it's not' argument. This was a thread questioning the validity of the way something works, why can't we keep it that way?

Even though you are correct about the thread derailment, I think it is being discussed that way looking for a solution. Ninja's logging out and keeping a study is crap. So is being able to study while someone is ghosted. Beyond that, I don't see a problem with it unless something new has happened to it I haven't experienced yet. (haven't been assassinated since the changes so I'm not too sure about it).
