Please. They have some measure of intelligence' date=' they recognize the value of banding together... ever heard of barbarian hordes in real life? Violence, pillaging, rape... all good fun to them, but they knew they needed to work together to do it else they'd be slaughtered by their numerous enemies. EDIT: They also recognized the value of hiring themselves out as mercenaries, they were often led by one strong and charismatic figure... but they were hardly productive members of society that respected the rule of law.[/quote']
barbarian horde, was a stereotype, most of these "barbarian armies" were terms the spanish and french governments used to slaughter these armies with minimal resistance from their people. Not to mention it made them look like heroes in their eyes. However as history has proven, the majority of these barbarians were established armies of other nations.
As far as the pillaging and raping is concerned, that was very common amongst militants all throughout history. Some tribes/countries still practice such brute tactics today.
Allow minotaurs to be lawful
Yup, and we persecute and destroy them for it. Because that's what we see as Lawful.

Thats only if they have a large supply of oil, or factories we can utilize.

I've studied ancient and medieval warfare a fair bit. If you think there were not roving bands that killed and stole from anyone they could find, you are wrong. Obviously, many groups labeled "barbarians" were not such... the term itself arose because the common Roman didn't understand the native languages of groups they conqured throughout Europe, only hearing the words as 'bar-bar'... and groups like the Visigoths and Gauls had their own rules and societies, as well as the Mongols, the Huns, and many other groups labeled as barbarians... but to say that there haven't been small (several dozen to a couple hundred) groups that ran through their territories plundering is ignorant.

are you inferring minotaurs are this way? If anything that says evil to me, not neutral... I'd take evil over lawful any day.

I'm saying minotaurs are similar. These groups often did not fight within themselves at all (well, minus the usual personality conflicts and for dominance), splitting loot between themselves... much like pirate groups during the Middle Ages up until the Industrial Revolution or Viking raiding parties. Now, the case could be made that pirates and Vikings were evil, but I would argue that they were more neutral... they were quite willing to kill if there was something to gain, and often enjoyed it, but random slaughter without any reward was fairly rare. Almost always it was slaughter for supplies and money (and we are perfectly willing to let neutrals be Syndicates).
You will never, EVER get a minotaur Tribunal.
And if you do, you'll most likely have the following skill removed: Charge
So don't bother. Because it's not going to happen.

minotaur warriors don't get this bonus which i think is utter crap that they only give it to berserkers.
Charge
Flee
Charge
Minotaur has captured Jester!!

only if he is a berserker, which he will probably get stuck in the fight due to rage.
Pali hit the nail on the head concerning minotaurs. While it looks like a city, it is in all actuality slavery. Mahn-Tor is in power because anyone who opposes him is killed. Even the most chaotic animal understands power. You take some of the most unpredictable animals out there, and they understand the notion of an alpha male. So the fact that they have a city is a moot point when it comes to obeying the laws. If that was the case, the Nexus cabal could not exist - nor could Chaos have existed. How would a bunch of chaotic individuals follow any sort of organization? What held them together? How about orcs, for example. They are a very chaotic bunch, what holds them together? The answer is power.
Actually, without me falling into a heavy preaching of orcish culture, what keeps them together is ancestery and religion.
I find it interesting that this topic would not only be brought up, but actually compared to human actions in real world history. Remember people, minotaurs are mythical creatures. There is no reliable source (both words are used lightly) one can point to to say, "See, this is how minotaurs are supposed to be," because minotaurs don't exist.
I repeat, minotaurs don't exist!
Which means we can define them however we want in the virtual world we have built. Everyone else is of course welcome to their own opinion. But if the FL admin wants to define FL minotaurs as either neutral or chaotic, then FL minotaurs are going to be either neutral or chaotic. We have a particular idea of how minotaurs should be in our virtual world.
You don't have to agree with us; you may even question our reasoning.
But to say the minotaurs in FL should be this way or that is as reasonable as criticizing Blizzard Entertainment's representation of orcs in Warcraft because they don't resemble the Vikings, or because they don't resemble the orcs in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
Simply put, we really don't have to defend our concept of minotaurs at all, and especially not to someone who for some reason or another believes comparing mythical creatures (the vast majority of which have already been interpreted in many different ways in many different works) to humans in the real world makes any sense at all. If we want FL minotaurs to have five wings and three arms, then FL minotaurs will have five wings and three arms. Why? Because we said so.
Remember, we do allow exceptions. We're much more flexible than this thread would lead new players to believe. Allowing all minotaurs to be lawful, however, does not fit into our agenda.

how about evil?
If you're asking why minotaurs can't be evil, then the answer is once again: we define the game however we want.
If you're asking whether or not you would be granted an evil minotaur, then the answer is: depends on your application and roleplay.
If you're asking whether or not evil is real or not, then the answer is: this is a MUD, not a philosophy class. But we still define evil in FL however we want.

I realize you define minotaurs as neutral, I'm asking will you allow minotaurs to be evil as a whole, from what I've seen the way FL defines minotaurs is quite evil.
There are no plans to allow minotaurs to be evil-aligned at creation, and we do not currently see the necessity/usefulness (however you want to define necessity or usefulness) of changing the current image of FL minotaurs.
A minotaur, like any other character, may apply for an alignment change.
The necessity and/or usefulness of a non-vuln non-qrace giant sized zerk? Sign me up.... :-P

If you want an evil minotaur, make a minotaur and rp it as evil. Same as lawful. There might be consequences, but you can still get it. From what I have experienced, anything is possible for the most part. Hell, I had a non-outcasted undead healer.
