-----------------------DK vs Ogre War
Again, POLEARM! Since they are an Ogre, you can take a more "warrior" tone in the fight, but you have to have some staying power so roll with the Polearm. I try a fireball early in the fight so I know what kind of damage he's taking when I'm ready to turn it on. I skip all magic missiles unless he's got decent saves. I go right for the curse and energy drain, if you're lucky you'll get a few magic missiles off from a bash or two. But you mainly want to tip this fight in your favor ASAP. I would not expect to have to flee more than 2-3x in this whole encounter. I open with fireball, he dirts, I curse, then curse again if fails, or veil...then flee and heal...open with veil if it failed, or trip if hes flying, if not, then open with a plague. Even if plague fails, I start here with the fireballs/iceballs. He should be the one fleeing, not you. Chase with whatever you like between energy drain/fire/ice

This should be a super easy fight unless there is drastic eq/cabal powers at play. I have killed Thulgan, but I was decked and had some great cabal bonuses.

 

 

As one get more experience, it's time to play less like a warrior and more like a shaman/mage.

Curse, poison and Plague are easy to land on a ogre and will allow you to live longer through the bash train.

It will also cut his regen.

 

I understand the appeal of dispel but sometimes it's better to forgo your malform, grab a Chaos blade and play it shaman style. Not forgetting healing.

 

Trying to fight a Ogre while you are at Awful is most times suicide. Even if you evade bashes, he might ROAR at your perfectly timed fireball, that would kill any other, and flee-murder you for a double round.

 

Also, why aren't you using 'missile shield' ? I know it's expensive, but after the first bash feast, you should understand why it is a must vs any Warrior.

 

Also Avian 23 Dex allows you to carry some poison sacks of 'enlarge'. I don't say you should carry six like a certain crusader, but 2-3 specially against bash happy giant warriors.

Or perhaps explore more your cabal options ;) .

I should have died the first fight. I wasn't even close to being ready, just went in at it. I even had on a demon talisman from where I removed my malform. So, I was fighting an ogre warrior with a flail in one hand, and a demontalisman on, with no shield. I got a lucky flee.

 

The second fight I was prepared other than missle scroll. I was using a polearm, and I played according to what I thought best at the moment. The last spell that would have killed him(Unless he 'roared') went off directly after he fled, giving me lag and him time to come back in for the bash.

 

Sure, I bet I could use another read of the DK essay. This is my first DK period. I'm happy with what I've accomplished so far. Please don't hurt my feelers anymore.

Im not a big fan of using halfling when fightin an ogre as a charmy  find it alot more useful to use the mistress of magic as she casts many hard hitting spells as well as paralyzes her opponents, that 150 - 200 point psi spell she casts has helped me more then once when i am bash locked and helps me pull out the big finish.  Overall a great read and could have gone ether way in the end I think.

Guys, you are being a bit too harsh on Gearald.<br /><br />I think he didn't perform as badly as some people here make it out, and if it wasn't for the extreme luck Wylomer pulled out in regards to the extreme HP regen (which seems more like a bug IMO) and not missing a bash against a nimble avian, he would have easily won this.<br /><br />Yes, he could have invested a bit more in preparation, still, the way he played this is nowhere near "bad".

Gearald is becoming a great DK player.

One can actually see him grow. This is what happens when a player sticks to a class instead of just giving up.

When told Gearald that he should read the second DK essay, it's not to hurt your feelings. It's to evolve/advance your skills.

Playing a DK like a warrior with fireball is one of first strategies of DK's. And it's very powerful.

Playing it like a Shaman is harder to pull of and the benefits are harder to notice.

But once you know how and when to play one or the other, you will become a lot better as a DK.

For example you can stack -11 STR with poison/plague/chill combo. This can be devastating at times. Even more if you have access to weaken.

 

Something I forgot before.

The pet.

Warlock is a great choice, because it can break his bash lock.

So is the Mistress of Magic as someone said. Specially if you play like a warrior with dirt kick, flee + trip as she can cast Fireshield.

Torilar is also handy, due to Path of Deception and L50 blind. I think he may also casts weaken.

But there is one pet that used to be standard vs Ogres during FL 2.0

The Cook in the Flying citadel. L49. It has 3 magic attacks, dirts and bashes.

 

Keep on trucking Gearald, you are doing very well.

I could feel Gearald's death to heart. I've fought so many decked ogre warriors and and I really thought Gearald would win when Wylomer missed his bash toward the end. Definately should always use missile shield against ogre warriors though.
