Wild Growth

For years, the dark wood, Drkshtyre has been tainted. Nothing had grown in centuries, and what had remained of the forest had largely been burned to ash by a rash attempt to cleanse the corruption.  Only a single plant had survived taking root in the twisted soil, a remnant of the past fostered by a druidic hermit, Zaliszaen Mal'Orguul. Why it grew could not be known for certain, only that it did. Only the druid knows for certain, though his growing distrust for society has led him to keep the whole truth behind closed lips.

No matter the cause, it does not matter. Only results matter. And what results have been had...

The once tiny, pathetic sapling quickly began to grow. In mere minutes, it towered over the center of the old forest, easily taller than any tree seen before. Black as onyx, its branches blocked out the sun in a canopy of leaves. As the tree grew, life began to spring up throughout the forest. While none were as large as the Black Tree, each was easily the size of a watchtower, and Val Miran found itself cast in the shadow of the Drkshtyre.

Seeing an opportunity for expansion, the giants to the north took to harvesting these new trees, so that they might build ships and expand their territory. However, just as trees had returned, free of the corruption, so too did the treants. With the help of Kharandor and the Druidic Circle, they push back against the invaders, and take vengeance on those that reveled in the destruction of their homes.

But amidst all the growth, something dark and ominous remains, manifesting as a chill that runs up the spine of all who enter. A presence unseen, but felt in the most primal of senses. A resurgence of life built on a dark secret...

What is the cause for such rampant growth? Is the corruption of the forest truly cleansed? And if so... How will Gaia get her revenge on those that have taken up arms against her...?
