Despy vs Puerilaug

This was my one and only pdeath on the character. Kudos to Puerilaug for being the one to get me.
I had a huge bounty on my head and didn't have enough CP to get out of the #1 spot AND buy it off, plus I wanted to fight him anyway.

We went back and forth for about an hour and we both made the other flee a bunch but nobody could secure a kill.

Finally we went at it again and everything went right for him, a solid collection.

We are fighting in Haon Dor and so I wanted to try and land some mals on him in wolf form.

As the lag from my previous tear is just about to end, I put another one in. I am very healthy and not concerned at this point.

Then this happens, yikes, very well timed by him. He had failed all his previous dispel attempts.
I was rolling with around -40 mental saves and the ring of abyss so I did not respect dispel.

If I had not entered tear I had a small window to flee, but even one failed flee and I was done because as you will see the lag lock begins right away.

Sadly my flee never went through. Amazing lag lock from his army, the only reason I survived 5 rounds was because of my immunity to his mummy, otherwise I woulda been 2 rounded.

I'm not even sure that tear command is what killed me since the lag lock began in the round right after the dispel, I would have had to flee right away and if it failed or I was not quick enough I would not have been able to enter another command anyway. Either way, good timing and good kill.

To be fair I was not mad about this kill, or even dispel magic. My argument on discord was that the lag lock potential of the army should be looked at considering how unreliable the current means of flight are vs a dispel magic.

I was also annoyed that Anume kept defending it as "balanced". Necros are not OP imo, but they have a lot of tools and with the current state of EQ you cannot effectively defend against everything they have offensively. I know I am not the only one to die with no counterplay after being dispelled, but it's primarily the trip lock that gets you, not anything else.

Correction: I never said "It is balanced" I said, this was unlucky and I've survived a lot of times when I was dispelled as various chars, bc it is more likely you get a flee in that not. Thing is, we remember the one time we did not get away a lot more than the 6 times we got away.

We are looking at necro pets already and have been for a while.

There's also been a bug fix and a slot correction which concerns necros recently.

IMHO, necros and monks will always be OP.  I've played both successfully (Azun/Salith).  Any class that you have a low percentage unavoidable one shot kill on most enemies (sleep or dispel, dragon strike lag + disarm/chii bolt), you can just keep re-skirmishing until you land it.  There are some exceptions obviously but these are the classes that I have had the most lop-sided experience playing.

Well either way I maintain it is not dispel magic that is the problem here.

I fought Agrinora and Gilthok a TON, and they both were able to dispel me many many many times, and neither of them killed me.

In this particular case vs Puerilaug that was the only dispel he landed on me in all our skirmishes, so in my experience against necromancers on this character dispel magic into lag lock had a 100% kill rate.

Maybe it was just lucky, I don't know how many times other non auto flying characters have been dispelled by a necro and still survived, I do not have the data to analyse.

My previous character (who was a giant) successfully killed Puerilaug, back when he was still a savant. The difference was I was able to separate him from his pets AND I had an item that gave me autoflight, so triplock was never a threat.

Mages are far tougher to play then anything.  Being a mage is tough work.  You need high amounts of AC usually to be even able to compete.  You need spell level for your things to land.  That is why there are far less successful mages rolling about then melee.  You can't just pick up a staff and be on your way.

It's actually easier to play a mage today than it has been for years.

I say this as one of the squeakier wheels about mages being weak. 

imo the only mages that are on the weak side are liches and battlemages. Necros, PSI, Invoker are all in a good place (possibly too good) .

Show me one Invoker that has ever gone without a death.  Psi are just stupid anyways and I hate them all.  I think they're all too powerful and they're the only mages where there spells actually work.  Necros depend on there pets to be successful kick some dirt at a Necro and you'll ruin its day.   Clerics are not mages they are Warriors with cure critical.  Battlemage are a great mage class and if there upkeep could be reduced they would thrive.

Firstly let me remind you of a quote from Virigoth "You are meant to die". The fact that we have people that don't die is a different issue.

Secondly, the nature of an invoker means you have to put yourself in a risky situation to secure kills yourself as they have no lockdown, you have to bait people into staying too long to get kills and that often means you will sometimes die yourself. 

There have been a few invokers with very few deaths however in the past few years. Foxx had a watcher one that as far as I'm aware either never died or died once or twice. Tasaire was a sigil invoker that didn't die often either.

I mean sure, that's your opinion but other mages spells definitely work.

I don't see a problem with this? Like I said, in the past it was much worse than it is today. Necros have a bunch of tools to be able to approach a scenario without having to eat a dirt kick and get beat on.

Their upkeep isn't even a problem, I've played A LOT of battlemages and never had an issue with it.

I disagree. Or if I was using your method of discussion. "Show me a lich that hasn't taken a death."

I basically only play mages, and I've played mages against some big, big baddies like Kotrag, Kelmi, Danpher, Keshan, Decimus etc etc and I'm telling you that it is far easier to play a mage today than it was versus any of those opponents when they could reach 60hr/60dr/60 save spell.

Every single class that has a major power peak also has it's (usually) equal downside.  Vamps are incredibly powerful but in cabal warfare, their daylight limitation can be easily taken advantage of in CTF.  I hated that aspect of the class when in Nexus.  And then obviously the vuln.  BMGs are incredible but with the obvious upkeep downside.  Invokers also great with the downside of maintaining mana > mana charge.  Psis can only remember small numbers of key spells and don't have guarnateed bash protection (unless this has changed).  Liches have a phylactery to maintain, a vuln, and aren't guarnateed bash protection (unless this has changed).

As I played probably the last successful necro prior to the changes and had several logs to compare to current necros, I'm keenly aware of how much more upside current necros have.  And to be honest, I'm not really sure what the downside/s are beyond horde control but as Celerity pointed out in another post, horde control isn't the biggest concern at current time due to auto strength damn.  That said, I know the IMMs are looking into this and I'm sure a good solution will come out of it. 

Don't know the details of ML leaving FL but who hasn't taken a vacation out of frustration, claimed they'd never return, only to start salivating over PK logs six months later.  He'll be back :P
