Yeah you flared yourself only 2 out of 4 times. For minimal damage too. A single one can usually kill an invoker. How'd that happen?

You're not gonna kill yourself when you flare yourself by using spells.  When fighting a PSI, your weapon will always flare because they steal your mana, but the amounts are not huge.  I'll sit in the pocket and bring the pain all day when I'm only taking a couple of decimates.  While He is stuck and I know he can't move.

There is a huge advantage to having a full staff, but during a fight like this to let it flare a few times is no big deal.

AFAIK It's the amount of mana you have vs. the staff that equates to the damage dealt.  That's why energy drain is so devastating.  Since it cuts your mana in half, now your staff has 1200 mana and you have half that.  The result is a flare that's def going to do some <<< DAMAGE >>>

Since he was prob less than 100 mana under the staff, he only got hit with small damage.

Edit: Also, each flare drops the staff's mana, so the ones you don't see him flare are, I'm assuming, because he dropped the staff mana to below his own mana.
