Necro's

People die in FL and instantly say something is overpowered or needs to be looked into. You were caught with your pants around your ankles by someone who is fairly decent at making entry through denim and you expected to do better? Gear up, if he looted, finish training and do work bro, don't get discouraged.

-Trick

LOL that is the most amazing saying ever.

I love it

thats just the first time i've seen anything 1 rounded...

i've even 3 rounded people with my feral ranger, but dayum 1 rounded? whew i was in like complete shock lol.

I've seen zerks, rangers, warriors, thieves, invokers, and dks also kill in one round. It's not something only necros can do.

In the lower levels I've seen a dual backstab kill. Granted, it was vs a faerie invoker.

Everything can kill in one round if your opponent is caught pants down. Not only that, but some classes can make you go into a "pants down" state too, even if you are prepared

Do you mean dispel magic and sleeping effects? I can't really think of anything else.

Saves help against both, poison against sleeping abilities.

I meant thieves with the dispel magic trap.

There are ways to get 'detect traps', so if you are prepared against a thief you should not walk into it.

Do yourself a great big favour - roll a necro as your next character and see what they can do. You'll find out all about how great it is to sleep/spell and kill someone while they are helpless. You'll also learn just how fast it can all go horribly wrong....

no commands but flee. all fight. complete laglock.

but no, necro's arent overpowered. not in the slightest.

We were perhaps a little hasty when we were correcting the "zombies lose size on logoff" bug and didn't fully consider the way that changing it would swing balance. I've watched a lot of these fights and people are getting bashed to hell for upwards of 4 rounds, meaning necros don't have to do much but sit back and watch the zombies do the work, which is certainly not what we had in mind.

Necromancers aren't meant to be all about the lag game, after all, they aren't even melees. A combination of changes over the years + the recent one has led to a set of circumstances where a lot more of a necromancer's "strategy" has become zombies than is ideal. Obviously, any class should need to utilize a range of skills in their skillset to succeed. We will be correcting this so that necromancers will hopefully need to rely more on their skills - sorry to anyone who has been run over by it up until now.

but no restrictions to prevent an admittedly overpowered class from running around and abusing the unintentional overpowerment.

I'm pretty sure you could have prevented that particular laglock with flight & defensive stance (which I assume you were trying to enter)...

but no restrictions to prevent an admittedly overpowered class from running around and abusing the unintentional overpowerment.

There is nothing restricting you from doing it either. Still, I am inclined to agree that necros are powerful. They were always very powerful with a full army, the size kind of makes it worse. I think the staff is doing a good job, trying to find a middle ground where necro's are not so weak without their fully strengthened Discord army, but not too strong with it.

(Wow. A monk that was not empowered. And it died. )

Defenses not mastered.

Not empowered.

Not in a stance.

Pants around ankles.

Sure necros might need some tweaking (and I'm sure the Imms are working on it), but I would hardly use this log as the basis for it.

no. i had empower offensive running (not much i can do to take a stance if im not empowered, just so happens my stance didnt overlap my empowerment, which, if you upkeep both immediately after losing, will never overlap anyway). thats what the "you cant concentrate on empowering while fighting" message came in. there was no prefight lag from that, it was like 5 seconds away from the tick to empower it. i did nothing but try to flee, because i know that necro zombies are bash happy. no other commands. nothing.

There is nothing restricting you from doing it either. so i should abuse the game when the chance arrives?

(Wow. A monk that was not empowered. And it died. ) it happens. empowerment doesnt last forever, and you have 2 hours where you cant empower or assume a stance. not exactly hard to stalk one until then.

You think it would had gone differently if Masokant with a charmie had started a lagglock? Or maybe Scholin or one of the other crazy monks? In this situation, there are classes that will take you down without you being able to flee. Heck, random giant warriors with enlarge would do that to my normal sized feral ranger. In those situation, I did nothing but try to flee, no other commands. This does not mean my own preperations were perfect, or that it was not unavoidable. Usually, after losing in a PK, I try to think what I did wrong rather than blaming my opponent for not losing or for not letting me get away.

Don't be near an enemy if you are empowering. Don't be in the same zone. Don't be in a zone close to his zone. Don't be in a zone close to your recall. My monk died a lot while empowering, and I think monk stances/empowerment is outdated and their current design flawed, but a lot of other players do very well with them so I am starting to think it might just be that my own insight into the class mechanisms is lacking (I always found it awful for a normal size class to rely on defensive stance to avoid getting lagglocked when they pretty much need to go offensive stance for just about any battle).

my defenses are pretty close, and see above. its impossible to be empowered and in stance all the time. duh, common knowledge.

still unable to flee. there was nothing i was doing to lag myself. any other class i coulda at least escaped from and empowered on the run. but with an army of bashing, tripping zombies all hitting you at once? even if i were empowered defensivly and was using blance to keep from getting lagged, i couldnt run. kurv didnt even have to fight, so i would have no headstart in fleeing, he could simply follow me around until i either couldnt move or i lost my stance. it would be useless either way.

those classes are -supposed- to lag. necro's are not supposed to be too involved with the lag game.

i will agree that monk stances a a bit stupid. its pretty much (from what ive seen and heard) dragon 90% of the time, and horse the other 10%

I disagree with you, necros are supposed to be very much involved in the lag game. They have four charmies that lag, and illithids (the only viable necromancer race, was there any dangerous necromancers that was not illithid?) have a racial ability that lags your opponent. I do not think any of the recent necromancer would do half as well, or even a third as well, without their armies that bash and trip. Just look at necromancer PK before level 40, it's awful and horrible unless they manage to land a sleep. And landing a sleep is not easy against smart enemies.
