Religion based Shrines

Always thought this since I started playing, never said anything because im lazy.. I dont feel that lazy today so here goes:

I always thought it would be neat if there was some sort of extra bonus to you finding the Shrine of your own religion..

You know, like some sort of perk for finding the most holy place for your religion on this plane of existance, save for (blah blah) anywhere your immortal is...

What about atheists?

Meh, sucks to be such a bastard with no faith is all im gonna say. Have some conviction, make a descision..

I decide to make no decision! Self-worship FTW!

Atheists aren't undecided. They've decided that none of the religions are correct and that there is in fact not a god.

An atheist in my opinion is a true "free thinker." Throughout your life you are subjected to so much religion and have it presented as "fact." If you are able to see through all the bulls**t to the truth of atheism.... More power to you!

Agnostics are the ones that can't decide.

I'd actually have to switch the two. Agnostic isn't people who can't decide, it's the people who have decided that there's the possibility of a higher being, they just don't know who that higher being may be.

Atheist however are people who don't believe in any greater being. An Agnostic is more open to hearing other people's beliefs while an atheist is more prone to ignore them. A lot of people who believe themselves to be Atheist find out somewhere down the line they were more Agnostic all along. At least that's what I've seen from personal experience.

In my experience, atheists are usually more angry than unbelieving.

Agnosticism is a stance on knowledge. In the context of the existence of a deity, it is the position that knowledge of such is outside of our reach, whether temporarily or permanently. If you do not currently agree with the proposition "a deity exists", for whatever reason (anything from a lack of evidence in support of the proposition to your imaginary ghost friends telling you no deity exists), you are an atheist. I would not extend this to cover those who never had been exposed to the concept of a deity, though some would, as they have not even had a chance to think about whether or not they agree with the proposition.

In my case, it's the lack of evidence to support the extraordinary claims of theism that causes me to consider them incorrect. I remain open to the possibility, though it'd take a bit to convince me that a deity's existence is probable.

Derailed in 6 posts. Awesome!

I think that line was the one that started the derailing, so, two posts.

I found this really, really funny. Mostly because we know KRins is always 'worshipping' himself.

Our religious views seem to be quite on par.

I could totally fathom the idea of a "God" really existing. However, I've never seen one religion with enough real, hard proof, to make me a believer. It's all based on alot of he-said, she-said bull****, with way too many loose ends which can only be answered with "faith" to believe. I'm open to the idea...but I don't buy into such things without proof.

Well, an added problem is that I've almost never been given any sort of concise definition of whatever the deity is that someone is proposing. The rare times I have been given such, they are claims that are then easily refuted by simple logic.

EDIT: And me saying this is actually quite relevant... I indulge daily in online religious debates, for three reasons: 1) they're fun, 2) if someone actually DOES have a good reason for believing, I'd like to know it, and 3) I've learned a ton about logic, evolutionary biology, astronomy, and various other fields through researching my rebuttals of various claims. I've heard just about every argument in favor of a deity's existence and I know just about every counter to them. We haven't had a good religious debate here in about a year and a half or two, and if anyone feels like another go I've gotten WAY better at presenting my position than I was then (though, NOT in the Ideas section... make a new post in the OOC Lounge... and we'd have to keep it mature, because tempers flare very easily on this subject).

I know I know.. This is my fault. I brought a religion discussion onto the forums. Im sorry.

Don't be. Like I said, I actually really enjoy religious discussions, and if anyone would care to start one in the OOC Lounge, I'm all for it so long as people keep their respective cools.

Aint gonna happen, these discussions go south really fast.

They can, but they also can be surprisingly mature. It's amazing the difference in response you get from someone simply by altering the phrasing you use... for instance, saying that a belief has no foundation in evidence tends to get a less negative response than saying that said belief is "ridiculous". So long as nobody adopts a Tit for Tat mentality, things can remain very level-headed. Like I said, I debate this stuff daily, and in truth I've seen more good honest discussion than I have name-calling and yelling.

Personaly, I am a big fan about talking/debating religion and politics.

I'm a huge fan of watching threads degrade into harassing each other and heckling of each other as long as I can watch from the sides and not be pointed out. It's when they get locked my fun goes down. So by all means, talk about it and discuss it.

Yeah I agree with Tantangel.. It doesnt take long before things go down hill.
