...or at least lose control weather
I don't think I even need to justify this. It makes them just a tad overpowered when you consider they can heal themselves with no penalty of failure, hide, have pets that can lag, and have all the other offensive/defensive abilities they have.
From an RP perspective, it doesn't make sense either. It does for druids, not rangers. Rangers live off the land and have no business casting spells whereas druids are, basically, priests of nature.
It was fine to have before rangers were buffed, now it makes them overbuff vs certain classes.
The argument about controlling weather being easy to do - it's not, not when there are typically 2-3 rangers on making the weather stormy and you're trying to fight and use a control weather staff - it just doesn't work.
And it certainly would not gimp rangers one bit to lose it, it would only make them less god-like.
I agree, I think rangers have a LOT going for them, they dont need magic.
only do it if you're willing to put something into the Power Karma, which is to buff another class everytime you take anything away from another class. in this case, uber-buff warriors.
You should not be fighting a ranger in the forest.
Its not like he can lag lock you.

Sometimes one does hot have a choice where to fight. The forest is not the only place thunder storms can be cast. Rangers can lag lock: pets trip if you drop flight or if you get hit by certain cabal skills, and one path of rangers which have throw can lag you directly.
If one is lost, they should keep the other.
If they keep thunderstorms, then they have to work as a team with others, meaning they can't just go around killing everyone.
If they keep control weather, they can still keep those invokers from eating them.
Oh and btw, call lightning and thunderstorm are TWO extremely different spells, even if they look the same.
Yeah I think ogre rangers are one of the most poweful classes in the game. Either more classes should be powered up to match them (not blm/bmgs) or they should be powered down a bit.
Rangers are by no mean overpowered. Ogre rangers, however, I agree are really, really nasty to deal with.
Isn't there a non rare stave that changes the weather in a really accessible place? I could be wrong though......
Re Ivy: there is.
Re rest: several balance issues are currently looked into (this is generally the case most of the time) and might result in some slight tweaking.
I think Ogre rangers are a little too buff, but I don't think the problem is thunderstorm. It's the archery path and beastmaster path. The arrows are too powerful, the ranged shooting is too accurate, and three(?) level 51 beasts is too much. I remember for the original beastmaster path V-goth saying he considered making the two beasts level 51 and decided that was too much.
At any rate you can't lag lock with a ranger, unless someone isn't flying and you get lucky. Throw won't lock someone as it takes two rounds to throw and it doesn't consistently lag for two rounds, more like 1/2 to 1 1/2 rounds. You can also neutralize throw by dirt-kicking or sacrificing. Frankly I think the tracker path is just fine, and well within the spirit of the class, but the other two are kind of out of keeping with it. It was always a tactics and finesse class, never a brute force class.
Thunderstorm was already nerfed once and it's easy to avoid by fighting indoors.
well i hope rangers dont get gimped in any way. this is mainly because the revamp of the class is so freaking awesome. i think it's the best renovation of any class ever. the real problem is ogres using the class and i dont see any way to surgically excise that power combo unless you maybe take skills away from the ogre/ranger combo. if anything, this shows that other classic classes needs similar awesome renovations.
Isn't there scrolls that make arrows null?
If you dont' get what I'm saying, it's that with those two things alone two ranger skills are null. I know not every class can use scrolls or staves, but not every class is designed to beat every other.
Rangers are kinda designed to beat every class.
Clerics, communers? They've got very good offensive output. Plus a high damage spell to those -ac loving freaks! Arrows are always awesome, get a head start before the battle even begins!
Melees? Again, some very good offensive power. The ability to flee/return/murder and miss some damaging rounds. dirt/flee/shoot is always awesome too. Pugil is always a good melee option. And once again, aside from dwarf/halfing opponents, a very nice damaging spell, PLUS an attrition killing skill.
Rogues? Fae fire abilities, attrition killing, area spell, etc. etc.
I think if anything the beastmaster class is the weakest of the three. Archery is sick but easily neutralized by a blm or anyone hwo can use scrolls. Tracker is very sick, you can hide effectively without losing your pets, and if you are winning the track skill makes chasing down the enemy a charm, plus doublesheath is so so useful. Yes throw can be countered, but its not gonna make a huge difference. Beastmaster has some cool perks and is not weak by any stretch, but thats because the stock ranger skills rock anyway, I think beastmaster should be allowed any three pets too make them as good as the other two paths and then rangers as a whole get toned down a sliver.
Well then, I think the real question with rangers is, what makes them too strong?
ogres. look at the PK history of this mud. who's been the most successful and inspired serious fear. you can take a normal ranger down, everyone stop kidding yourselves.
Just because you can't take Corinkorth down, doesn't mean other people can't.
For the last time people. A well-equipped cabal elder having moderately impressive PK success does not make a class overpowered.
Just like Despiser playing a Vampire Tribunal Leader doesn't make vampires OR Tribunal overpowered. Suunmar doing well does not make FG clerics or Savants overpowered. I beat them both, so it's not like they're invincible.
no one mentioned that character except you. and he is no more impressive than any other caballed ogre ranger. they all kick butt.
