I'd like to preface this by saying I see no problem with looting/full looting from a mechanics aspect. There are different PK tiers for a reason.
That said, I was wondering the general consensus on how death is viewed in FL. I don't mean mob death or con death but rather general character death where the character is likely to immediately come back after having been killed.
Now, the way I RP death and killing right now is attempting to kill the person who dies. If I, as a character, am trying to kill another character, I am doing so because I wish them to be dead, as in gone, rotting, feeding the worms. I'm not trying to teach them a lesson or help them improve their skills or punish them or cause them pain. I'm trying to get rid of them, permanently. That's a character perspective.
On the other hand, I've killed characters and have been killed by characters, and my character knows he almost died (read as wasn't granted another chance at life by whatever gods saw fit to restore him). It's pretty obvious, from a character stand point, that people who die don't necessarily stay dead. That's when full looting start to enter the picture, because you want to make sure your enemy will not gain an advantage over you should they come back all of a sudden. Okay, cool, I can understand that, I guess, but it seems to color the perspective of death into killing someone to take them out of the picture for a couple of days and to make sure they don't have that wicked gear they were using to fight you.
Then comes the concept of condeath. My character has known people who have died and not come back. So now he knows that it's possible, and it gives him motivation to kill his enemies after they return in hopes that they won't the next time. That's when multi-killing comes into play.
So, I suppose my questions are, how are these concepts looked at in FL from an RP standpoint? How common is the knowledge of these phenomenon? Do characters know that killing another character will not likely mean the actual death of that character? Do they understand the concept of condeath? If not, what drives characters to kill each other? If characters believe death is meaningless, shouldn't they be trying to find another way to forward their goals?
So, yeah, those are my questions. I hope they make sense.
