I was just curious why you guys do not participate in the monthly polls. I can only think it is to maybe avoid accusations of favoritism.
Question for the Imms
how do you know they don't under a different name... ![]()
They would never do that, for the reason you mentioned.
I can't speak for the others, but I can tell you why I don't.
My interactions with players are not the same as it is when I'm playing as when I'm IMMing. So, as was stated, if I were to post in a poll, I would post as a player, not as an IMM.
If Imms posted as IMMs, instead of players, half the playerbase would just copy and paste. ![]()

Why do you think so?
PS. We recently had an IMM post a shout out, so I really see no problem.
I'm the Reverend. Since when do reasons and logic apply to me?

Praising someone's actions and declaring them the best are two different statements.

Well that's a bit if exagerratement, but perhaps you are right, since some people might get it the way you described it.

Shout outs are praise.
Polls are best of class/cabal/etc....

"Best of" is praise too. However, I agree that Imms posting those on their Imm accounts would be.. different.. than posting shout outs. just playing the devil's advocate.

sigh A shout-out is praise, usually for a single action/interaction.
Polls are month-long, this person is a shining example/best of their class.....
You can't tell me you can't see the HUGE difference between the two praises.
there is a difference. the amount of praise ![]()
a shout out is a quick, one instance "hey you did awesome"
a best of for the month is "you were consistantly on top of things. major kudos."
The difference is that a shoutout is saying "you are good", while a poll is saying "you are better than everyone else (that are playing a warrior/invoker/undead/nexus etc)".
I hate to be "this" guy. But I disagree.
Yes a shout out is praise, yes it says great job on this one action. But I do not believe the Poll to say you are the Best at . Here is my reasoning. While it may be the intent of the poll to give props to the greatest, it has become little more than a popularity contest. When I see a name in a poll I know that the person submitting the poll likely saw/interacted with their choices more than the other available choices. I do not believe that the sumbitter is claiming each of his choices is the greatest of that particular class. I could list all my failing miserably characters who have popped up on your polls as proof. But I will not. I will only say that what those characters lacked in fighting style they compensated with great RP. But in no way has any of my chars ever been the "best" of any class. Saving lack of other choices at all.
it has become little more than a popularity contest.
Oh, yeah! That's why I don't participate in those anymore. ![]()
I've never actually done a poll of the month. I never thought of it as a popularity contest before. ...Now I'm interested! ![]()
I'm amazed at how this thread turned into a debate over shout-outs/polls and the intent involved behind an Imm trying to make a nice jesture toward someone... Oh, well... If we didn't argue with one another...I sometimes think most of us would have nothing to say.
No I'd always have something to say. If nothing else I could extol the virtue of cupcakes for days on these forums. Most of the time the only reason I don't post is because I know you people would get tired of reading my crap. ![]()
My statement was not directed at anyone specific... ![]()
