AC has to do with the amount of 'misses' the guy fighting you makes too.
Ac vs Hp
the word I am thinking of is "flee" and the fact that invokers cannot prevent it.
Nah, Myrek, a thief only beats a healer if he is caught REALLY unaware.
And necros are pretty easy for a smart thief to handle. You can turn their pets, summon them...use divine ret to own their asses in a few rounds...just too many ways to weaken them and divine ret hurts necro classes too much.
Not to mention when divine interventions come into play, but we can't discuss those.
Assuming equal preparation, equipment, and player skill...
Classes that own healers: shamans, necros, vamps, maybe thieves
Classes that can't touch healers: melee classes
Classes that can run off a healer: invoker, bmg
You can't kill what you can't keep in battle.
From what I've seen, I would add to your list of ownage on healers: Druids.

Yeah, I'm missing the point. If a thief doesn't take their target unawares, why would the thief stay and fight?

(I assume you meant healer.) How does a healer cast devine retribution when they are lagged? A necro shouldn't be fighting unless the victim is blind, cursed, etc, etc, etc.
I think I know why people are complaining about not being able to PK. They are missing 3 key facts:
- If you didn't start the fight, don't try to finish it.
- If you started the fight but it isn't going your way, flee.
- Fight like your class. Don't play a necro like an invoker. Don't play a thief like a warrior. Fight on your terms or don't fight.
edit: I don't know that druids can keep a healer in battle. I might put them in the "make 'em run" cat.

Not after Virigoth modified the druid class. One ability in particular was toned down so that this is no longer true.

Not true for all melee classes, I fought a healer in a duel with my warrior, healer had all the necessary spells up, flight, sanc, prot shield, div retribution, he took me to sixty, maybe seventy percent before I dropped him.
This is my first warrior I'm playing currently that I've ever pinnacled, but so far it seems warriors can easily own any mage or communer class, and I think invokers would be the hardest to beat out of them. And rogues haven't been too much of trouble so far, although I haven't fought a really good thief in a while.
Zerks can own healers if they get a lucky haymaker in before they're calmed.

Duel being the key word, if it were pk, he would have just left the fight.

Zerks usually can get the drop on a Healer. I know that Sneaks nearly killed mine by charging him near the Cloud Kingdom.
Getting back on track now, AC affects damage absorption, defense (dodge... etc), and "misses". With certain mage classes, you'll find that you won't really have trouble wracking up the AC... even if you're going for HP armor. If you're one of the casting classes (invoker, bmage, etc...) there is a good chance that you've chosen a race with a relatively lower con stat. If this is the case, focus on HP and let the ac pile up naturally. If you're asking generally, you can only expect a general answer: A good mix of HP and AC does a body good. However, if you have a specific class in mind, there are definitely more specific answers. You can ask about specific classes (as long as they're not qclasses), or read the class essays. Some of them describe exactly what kind of armor you should go after.

We have a winner! I'm so glad I'm not talking to myself.
I like soup.

If anyone remembers Chueh's psi from 1.0 you would know EXACTALLY what I'm talking about when I say how crazy a mage with absurdly high AC is.
I think Sirant said the benefit tapers off after -400 or so.

Combine that with the psi replacement (and upgrade) for sanc... yeah, they can take a pounding.
Ac question solved. I parry like a wimp with no AC. Average ac is nice.
Just don't have high ac against a ranger or an invoker.
I forgot the exact amount, but I remember Behrens having an insanley high AC with Corim. Seemed to do him rather well.
I think he said it -700 or something sick like that.
