Look at the three most active healers.
Two are outcast.
Look at the three most active healers.

Because they didn't RP a healer properly.
Or they failed to so so for one moment out of millions.
Don't be so harsh.
Outcast isn't a very big deal once you pinn.
MLK only would've needed to murder one guy for his entire platform of non-violence to go up in flames.
But yes, outcast really ISN'T a very big deal. Continued breaches of healer RP, though, will result in spells lost, which is a bit bigger ![]()
I have never played a healer. I havent taken a good cleric past rank 5.
I do understand however where the Staff is coming from.
Just because some people think the healer restriction is "boring" that is not a good reason to change their rp options. As far as I see it healers have an infinate amount of rp-ability, just like any others race or class (which all happen to have certain restyrictions). It is up to you the player of the healer to find a way to make life interesting while sticking to the rules of the guild.
As for joining cabals, I think healers should absouletly be allowed in cabals. Just because a healer cannot aggresively PK it does not mean they cannot actively defend. Having a healer on your side is greatly valuable. Whether it be to spell you up for a fight against enemy cabals, or to accompany you to difficult eq areas and get you decked. Ressurection, though gimped a bit, are still very useful to have at times. Even in tribunal, which is a little touchy, having a vamp elder and all, healers can still have a role as council and there is nothing against healer rp in putting a criminal in jail. If they show up in town and get wanted they knew you were there it is as good as attacking you. And I have yet to see a Tribunal healer run all over hells half-acre to aprehend a criminal yet, but again they have the right to kill in their own defense, the defense of their cabal, or their town. And hey, all you pk nuts who play healers, when you finally do see an undead that should be a grand feeling like winning the lottery!
So roll up a cleric, go the path of a healer, rp your religion how you see fit and be a great allie to many many people, but for gods sake do not aggresively pk non-undeads. It is not a difficult idea to grasp, nor is it an unreasonable limitation based on the idea of the healer class. If you are bored with any race/class it's nobodies fault but your own.
Seen both of them online the last 2 weeks. One's in Knight, and the other recently remade a clan, the band of light. They haven't deleted.
And I still await to see healers go compleatly aggro against what they are there for, killing undeads and vamps. How many times have I seen healers complaining on the forum about not being able to kill andone because there are not many undeads. Well In my opinion I dont see why there are no outlawed healers right now, wait I know they are afraid to fight the Vampire that sits and flirts with all the ladies at central square. Personally I dont think they have a reason to complain since they like to attack Sirucan(sp) and the other one u something, but all refuse to even start a battle with marty, He is beatable. I know if I ever played a healer which I never have and never wanted to I wouldnt select ok this vampire I can attack because he cant make me an outlaw, but this one whoa I think I will just sit in Central square with him and let me flirt with me a bit because he can really rp well and gets my nikkers in a bunch.
But I will solve your problem and make a new undead so you can have a positive pk record since rp and preserving life isnt enough for you.
There are reasons some of the healers aren't fighting Marty.
When I rolled, I would have chose chaotic if I had known he was gonna be here...its just so damn tempting!
I understand what Raargant is saying, now.
Yay! ![]()
I knew healers were powerful, but like everything else, I assumed it all depended on how good the player was. If a healer's survivability was toned down or removed, they'd probably be a more acceptable PK class. Yeah. That makes sense to me now. Bleh.
Wouldn't it be interesting though to invent another class with resurrection? Heh.
Perhaps three 'paths' for healers as well, just like zerkers have paths? With one path being the total, complete pacifist (not allowed to chase so much as a single room, once the enemy flees), a middle path being willing to fight back against those who attack them (but NOT be the first to initiate/engage), and a third who, under limited conditions, would be willing to fight in order to save life.
All three would have resurrection, but only the pacifist would have dispel evil and divine retribution, only the middle would have dispel evil, and the aggressive one, none of the above.
I thought it wasnt really open for debate ![]()
Healers in their current incarnation will NOT be allowed to PK actively, period. That is not up for debate.
A retooling of the class is something else.
My question is how a healer without dispel evil or divine ret would take ANYTHING down...he'll be a lvl 50 who can't kill an ooze...

I LOVE the idea and have reccomended healer paths before, but I think it would involve more than just taking away dispel evil and divine ret.
Healers didn't use to have dispel evil/divine retribution; the first they didn't have at all originally, and the latter, couldn't be kept up with protective shielding, making it a very, very useless spell for the most part.
not really. It just meant you couldn't use it vs warriors, zerks or dks...not useless...
First of all let me tell you this...
I was outcasted as Awendris, not for activly PKing, but for changing religions and going nuetral. The fact is though, I choose that. I made that my RP and I stuck with it. Not only was I just outcasted, but I was givin a title, new round of skills, and everything.
Healer RP is not stagnant because of the code, or rules. Its stagnant because the players who play healers make it so (not all just most).
So before jumping to conclusion that healers need a revamp, and try to revamp the way you play a healer. I did, and got the biggest suprise of my life let me tell you.
Just ebcause you get that oucast flag, does not meant he IMM's are unimpressed with your roleplay, its just means they notice you. Sure sometimes its ebcause you were abusing pk, sometimes its ebcause you rped great, and they want to give you something extra.
final words.... you get what you put in.
I've read the thread and the debate has come to a conclusion it seems. So I won't contribute to that.
I have to say, though, that I think Warnow's resurrection idea is bang on the money. It would definately make resurrections much more worthwhile. ![]()

Rez was changed because goods would basicly never con death, and death became meaningless to them. The only way to make it stick was to be a slith, ranger, necro, (qstuff left alone), or sit there for 15 minutes defending the corpse. If you were busy defending your standard, or trying to retrieve your standard, this was impossible. And with three or four healers all going for the rez, you weren't going to succede. So they made it that goods con death just like evils, to preserve game balance. Goods still have a partial pk shield and the ability to request, if you take those two away then I won't mind rez being changed. ![]()
