Re-Noob Suggestions?

Well I'm sure some of you may remember me, I used to play here a bit a long while ago. Played a few healers, did plenty of role-playing but never did get much into PK. Besides going over the wiki and the help threads here is there any advice for someone getting back into the swing of things?

My malforms missed you Liadon

Oh did they now? I'm sure my brilliantly blundering personality quirks will stick out like a sore thumb when I officially get into the server. The idea of PK still terrifies me but imma try to shake it.

You should make a heavy PK char. You'll be a monster I bet.

Ask Ellwyn how to PK without worry. They started just a few months ago or so and I pointed them here. Now they scare the crap out of me sometimes. I need to get my big girl pants on.

Aww no, but being pants-less is so much more fun! Well I hope your big girl pants fit alright! I'll see what I can conjure up.

If you played healers before.

Then stick with communers.

Play a good aligned cleric you will find many similarities, but move towards more offensive play.

Forget goodies. Play an evil. Be evil. Attack everything.

Discord Religion Drow Cleric. Easy as Sunday morning.

Legendary for PKing naked with a shield.

Just yell, for "Greater dominion!" and whack them in the head.

Other than that its a DK, that follows any religion.

You can even use charm person to RP.

I can give you some advices but you know what I want in exchange

Everyone here is wrong. If you want to learn how to pk do a stone giant warrior gladiator, my evidence? Dagnab Bedrock. He didn't even know who Adeptus was when he started, by the end he could solo Gear.

Melee is not a good starter pvp class.

Neither is evil align.

Best is to play a good align, for reliable alliances, and a cleric, because she is familiar with communers and would find synergy with what she has experienced.

They equip very easy, can explore every zone in the game, and are not reliant on spending time gathering consumables.

So basically, you are saying that in order to learn to fight, she needs to have as many friends as possible?

Good is longer good for PK learning due to the lack of viable PK targets.

As an evil you can attack anyone.

The learning of PK should be done by drowning ourselves in PK. Not by doing controlled mock fights. Moderates are great at this, as they allow the character to be PK ready in 5 min after death.

Sure moderates hold less rares, but when learning PK, one should not focus on godsuits, but on gaining skills.

Skills like running, chasing, learning not to spam, alias, when to strike, what to use vs what class. What other use that works very well on me, and how I should make it work for me.

With a good, you are just stuck in a very slow lane.

I learned to pk by reviewing logs, and analyzing strategy. Not by dieing a whole lot, but by leanring what I did wrong when I did die and change it.

Being good keeps you from being ganked as much. It allows you to pick your fights better. I logged in an evil the other day, an old one of mine thats 50, and was attacked by a knight within minutes of logging in. That isnt a fruitful learning environment, its called unless you're a pro you wont be able to get ready at all.

At least with a good aligned character, in the current game environment, you will be able to equip and choose your fights.

My recommendation:

  • Go moderate PK

  • Recommend Dark-Knight, Ranger

  • Try a PK heavy cabal

Particularly liked DK because of their solo power. Charmed person + fireball + cure light really allows you to handle a lot of FL alone when you need to equip. Rangers get pets, solid melee tank, and can camouflage. Another great choice.

Learn how to equip first and foremost (at least to a moderate level). Its especially hard if you are totally outgunned because you don't yet have the "skills" and "tactics" to compensate for difference in power. This matters moreso for melee classes than mages.

Look at every fight, win or loose, and see if there was something you could have done differently to maybe change the outcome of the fight in your favor.

Example: Many times, I looked back at logs and realized my fireball only grazed some opponents. They had too much afflictive saves. Shoulda tried maladictive spells or even bash. Then next fight, try it out and see what changes. OR sometimes I look back and noticed my mal spell tactic to whittle down the opponent was not working (not landing). Try massive dmg output with fireball spam.

Ask for tips on your class and what you can be doing against people you constantly loose to. Truly, my fast learning curve is attributed to getting advice from others.

Jump on the server, hit h and look up the different races, and classes. I find I get ideas for characters when I do this. Then play around with ideas! I talk to my friends about ideas, they often give me advice on it.

Also, read the essays on the forum. They give a player-side insight.

I can think of two way, both of which worked very well to help me to learn to pk:

  • go WM, challenge everyone. Fight, fight, fight. Ask for advise. Log fights, post them, asking for advise (either just Imm advise or for the pk forum for suggestions from everyone)

  • If you know the basics already, go Syndicate. Go after EVERYONE who is bountied, no matter what. You will improve A LOT. You will also get some kills on people who really do not expect you to attack them

As to melee, rough, caster or communer, try them out. I've found that eventually almost every player finds the class they are most comfortable with. There are a very few players who are good with several classes, but that is rather an exception. Myself, I favor melees and roughs over casters and communers. For others, it is vice versa. It's a matter of playstyle and preferances.

In my experience with MMO's and MMO type games I learn and grasp quickest on either Tanks, or Support "Healers" / Cleric Types.

In D&D I choose either a Fighter, Sorcerer, or Cleric (the version without a damned prepared spell list... I forget what it's called. It's in the Book of the Divines.) Anyways, I don't like skulking around, I'd rather just be out with it. I'm not much for being a party leader but I get stuck with it a lot, that or I'm the go to gal when **** hits the fan.

Regardless, I know that's not much to go off from but I did enjoy the Shape shifting Ranger that I had. I think I had some sort of bird form which was cool because screw swimming through water when i can just fly. Helped me escape plenty of PK situations. Not to mention for all you trip fags it doesn't work on someone flying.

Liadon was hella fun and known for simply flying over someone's trip attempt and fleeing in that same turn. I'm sure it made a few PKers rage. Then again, a few things about her made people rage!

LOLOLOLOLOL

I dunno... I get super excited and have the most fun when I successfully avoid a PK situation. At the same time, the few times that I had actually dropped someone to zero I just wanted to teabag in-game so badly and then just prance off. But... that would be breaking character.

Anyways, thanks for the advice guys, and gals!

I'll look at what my options are and blunder about with it.

Favored soul.

Try a paladin. Still very much a tank.
