Alright a question for YOU.
Would you play a Drow Necromancer?
If not, why not? If so, why so?
What race then?
For me. I see it extremely difficult for me to play a Drow Necromancer.
They have Low Con -> Low HP.
Sneak bonus is lost because you lead pets.
Access to lasting Sanctuary is extremely difficult, can't touch Ankh, lose pets in arena.
Max XP penalty.
High Int is actually good.
And the 24 DEX is the only thing they have going for them. Which grants them ~100 AC. Ok, but not that good in PK.
I played one to 50, and the only race I ever played of a necro. It was fun until around rank 40, where I quickly learned I cannot play a necromancer. Atleast of the drow variety.
I say no, and basically stated every obvious reason why.
One plus they have to the Illithid is the weapon skill, h2h parrying is severely dampened if you ask me(not monks!)
I wouldn't. Illithids have just way too many advantages above the drow race, when it comes to necromancers.
The only reason I would not play a drow is for a squid. I am firmly convinced that combo has some huge advantages that have yet to be exploited. One of which would be use of power word kill. Autosneak? thank you
drow necro is actualy quite potent.
high dex = better defences
curse weapon = cursed anything, staff wise, like human they can wield weapons AND have very high dex (unlike illithid who have the crappiest parry in the game).
autosneak = flee and return without indicating direction, powerword would be easier to execute with the better defences, easier to get a drop on someone with sleep.
what do you lose?
leech = opener against blm's
cone of force = stun that is awesome against sleeping targets
shock = that reserve of hp is very handy.
higher int/wis allows for more effective sleep and dispel.
Drow necro would have more survivability on the frontend with a few less options for opening attacks against both waking and sleeping targets. I would not label them as gimp, on the contrary in the right hands they would be quite wicked. Throw in a cabal like syndicate and wicked becomes VERY nasty.
I am soundly convinced that Illithid is the best race for necromancer, even beyond Demon.
So no, I would not play a Drow Necromancer.
I cant really support my argument, but I think demon and squid are neck and neck. Both have greatperks.
For me its a No.
Every Drow I have pinned ended up outcasted. I am just not good at the evil RP. And Drow necro with no spells, really, REALLY, sounds like a hard time waiting to happen.
I have only played one necro in all these years and it was human. Since I never pinned him, he had a rank advantage, leaving me with a Humans are better feel. Statistics suggest that a drow would be better than human at Pinn vs. Pinn. But like everyone else I think I would likely try the Illithid over the drow. +1 int and +2 wis means more mana, and more HP/Mana conversions. Not to mention the PSI alternate course of action.
Pffft....undead necro rules them all!
I'd play a drow necromancer.
Illithid is hands down the best. Demon is close.
High Dex does not translates to better defenses.
Parry is equality affected by STR and Dex.
High dex translates to better AC which translates to mobs miss due to AC and less damage.
Of course Illithiad can hold a shield and a Stave/Wand, increasing their AC and saves by a lot.
Cursed staff is nice, until the moment they start dualing Axes you know zero about. That's when you wish you had the Racial Parry of the Squids. Good thing that if you have pets, you will mostly be facing defensive weapons like Staff,Polearm , spears+dagger.
Don't see how you get a Powerword due to sneak.
From my experience you mostly GRASP when they are lagged by pets and not aiming at you. Then you Flee and Powerword. They can't block your power-word, cause they are already engaged, or lagged, or running away.
Unless you are meaning that you are trying powerword/Sleep with no pets. Which in my opinion is suicide. Necros unfortunately cannot do it without pets, due to the harassment/disturbance they represent on your opponent.
Also, Humans can apply for Lich.
im a little confused what direction this is going?
I'd play a drow necromancer...the only thing that factors into why...or why not...would be my rp
Probably no where. People normally argue their view, they clash. Sometimes we learn new things. Others we refuse to see anything beyond our point. At some point the name calling start. Then it normally evolves (degrades) into a flamewar.
If you ask me where I would like to lead it, I would answer into the recognition that Drow Necromancers do not deserve the Sanctuary Penalty due to the Ankh being made of silver (zaps drows).

Ah, yes. What would a thread be without a staple mya suggestion? Been a while since I've seen the "Let Drow use the ankh" one.
At any rate, I'm more interested in why this is under ideas. Did you have an idea pertaining a solution for the inequity in necromancer race selection?
lol...Mya, anyone here who knows you already knew where you were going with that.
I wish they'd take those Ankhs and throw them in a deep pit somewhere. As a matter of fact, it's my opinion we're overrun with potions/pills/herbs as it is, let alone magical items.
Amen Valek.
I feel like if I dont spend atleast 10 hours a week gathering consumables I wont stand a chance against most players - which by and large is crazy considering how superior I am at life then most of you. (I will forfeit to Mindflayer, Mali and Despiser.
)
Success in life is not measured by how many sheep you have "shepharded".
Unless your from NZ. Which I am not.
Yay, that's where this thread should go. Down with consumables! Honestly, can't believe there are so many. Lets even the playing field. How about staves/scrolls/wands of bash, trip, bodyslam, etc. All those melee classes can get most of the spells of spell-casters. How about some stuff for the casters?
Seriously though, what happened to the days of vials and pills only? Now there are 1908149580915 consumables that make melees able to be spell-casters(kinda). Long sancs, cure critical, slow, haste, etc. Come on now!
