Guile & Guileism

Religious Studies · by Scholar Acele

Just so that I am outrageously clear, I am not a religious person. At the time of this authorship, a person named Melkoar has taken the shrine of Guile for himself, but I've never met him, and have no particular desire to either.

The very bold of my leaning are quite the pack of liars, pranksters, and cheaters. I think this brand of Guileists are mainly located in the East, Miruvhor. As a Herald, I cannot say I am a liar and a cheat, that would completely compromise my vocation. Also, it isn't true anyway. There are Guileists in the West too, so this Chance-fueled religion is not very well organized. It never has been.

Those who follow Greed cannot get along either, given that they are all in it for themselves. Dedicated Discord folk are arguably insane. A follower of Guile, a pure kind of follower, is not interested in creating discord, nor in finding booty, although they do not condemn these things. There are many things that they are not! So then what the *hell* does Guile really teach? I am going to tell you.

Life is one big roll of the die. The die tells you when you die! Wordplay. So how can you load that die? Any way you can. Spin things, find an out, pervert a bet. Murder if you must, but never someone that believes everything you say. Get gold, don't trust it. Make friends. Sometimes tell them the truth, but only when you can get a good game out of it. Give services for free -- just kidding. You're getting something out of that, but keep your expectations as low as possible. A good Guileist expects nothing at all. Turn down the tip, they'll give you more for it. Take the lock-box when no one is looking, your curiosity is more important than their wealth. Gamble all the time, because someone wins, and that someone is probably your confidant. You aren't a self-pleasing charlatan, you just like fun. Right? Make a mess, blame someone else. Don't get distracted by how big your bank balance is, that doesn't matter anyway. Bet it all away to shock someone sometime, watch it trickle back. Eat to excess, but only for the flavor. Horde knowledge, but only as stuffing for the cushion. Sit on it, sparingly share it back. Remember, you need that knowledge for your next gambit. Above all, befriend Luck at every turn. She is your mother, and she loves you dearly.

Regret no loss or scheme against you. Chance is the fuel of all you do. Everything that happens is your glorious cue. Chance is the fuel of all you do.

Again, as your author here, I am not religious. Guile is not a practice of mine, and it is quite a divided cult. Some do not know what place under the moons they sit, but generally those following the powers of Chance have a bit of Guile's teachings in them.
