Possession of the mind is much different than possession
of the body. This tome explains some of the differences between Entities and Phantom Spirits.
Entities are explained in the Physical Possession, Volume One tome written within this same shelf. Here are some of the differences between a Phantom Spirit and an Entity - An entity is much more powerful than a Phantom Spirit, due to the fact it takes control of physical movement and the passing of information. The entity takes control of the mind as well, but only the part of the mind that makes a body move. A Phantom Spirit cannot take control of physical movement, it can only haunt. Entities are a group of fractured spirits, or ghosts. Fractured spirits only contain a tiny piece of memory left over from a lost life, and they are capable of being merged with other fractured spirits to create an existent energy force. Unlike Phantom Spirits, which are singular ghosts from singular, lost memories, an entity is barely anything until it binds with hundreds or even thousands of others like it to finally become a spark of energy.
Phantom Spirits are not energy; they are an enigma. They
exist in a realm that has no time, thus, they are capable of slipping into any period of this realms time. They are not fractured - they carry the full memory of their dead body, but due to the Natural Law, they cannot come into existence without extreme amounts of arcane power, nor can they pass information, that will go out of the boundaries of their goal, or pass "Rifting Knowledge" (A Phantom Spirits' goal cannot be determined, for they are all different). Rifting knowledge is a chaotic piece of information that lets a mind and memory know something it should not, thus causing a massive shift in that being's, and/or several others' fate.
A Phantom Spirit only haunts. It can stay with a being
and tirelessly bombard it with words, whispers, or emotional feelings, but only with deceit. It cannot actually affect the mind, except through raw Communion. Most of the time, however, due to the endless whispering, yelling, and/or simple talking, the minds frailty will collapse, and the haunter will have control of the mind -and- the body. The spirit will then use the being to carry out its orders, by, of course, using lies and tricky words, tales, or riddles. It is possible to converse with a Phantom Spirit.
