Aabahran

Savant Cabal, Vol. 1

An Introduction to Cabals · by Herald Typhoeus Enceladus-Daeyi

For Time eternal the tower has stood apart from the reality of Aabahran. A silent sentinel, the mysterious mechanisms and convoluted chambers defying the grip of what you would understand as the normal flow of the universe. Nobody truly knows why the tower appeared, presenting itself in the present nearly a year to the day after the great war. The featureless smooth walls looming over the horizon ate away at the sanity of scholars and sages alike. Some imagined hallways filled with tomes, mysteries of the universe sealed within to study. Desperately Magi, and Priests, Warlocks, and Diviners came to inspect the tower, to find a way within. All failed, none worthy of this the greatest wealth of knowledge ever revealed to mortal eyes.

Time beyond mortal measure passed, eons as the records would show slowly crept by as this mysterious structure loomed. Fear, fear of the unknown, fear of what mighty force might be unleashed began to swell and fester upon the minds of Aabahran's citizens. Then, without any warning, fanfare, or preamble a great tick echoed from the tower and the doors slowly opened.

Ever since this often overlooked moment in our short and dark history the tower has thrived, grown, extending an often misunderstood influence across the lands. Despite the hungry dreams of bookworms and scholars, no chamber has ever been filled with mortal musings. No moment has ever been encapsulated by Heralds of old then stored within the tower. Not a library but a great device is this tower. A machine designed to navigate smoothly the often rough and disruptive roads of time. Built in such a fashion as to baffle even those who managed to find a way within, its own mysteries hidden in the depths of the very force it so easily twists.

Not all can enter the tower, and even those who enter find their minds and souls tested in every way. Stressed to the limits of mortal comprehension, some snap under the strain others strive, unlocking great powers and through the tower developing an innate influence over time itself. These beings, for no single race has ever held exclusive ownership for long, became known as Savants.

Though the towers purpose is at times convoluted by the interpretation of the Savants of any given era, several traits have always persisted throughout the ages. As Savants, each member is considered a guardian of time, and are given the tools and influence to be so. Protecting the mysterious timestream, as it may be called, from those who would seek to influence fate and destiny in their blind greed or lust for power. Every member, from the first to step past that great threshold to the most recent Savants have upheld this task with the utmost importance. Seeking to learn, to know, to understand the whims of time so as to preserve this mighty force that governs all things.

Ignorance of the unknown, fear of that which you do not understand, this has become the towers greatest foe. For in all things the rabble will fear most that which they believe may destroy them. In order to continue their greatest task the Savants had to come forth as great teachers. Spreading understanding, they work to dispel the fear from the mad savages, and when that failed...to sterilize them, for the stream must be preserved at all cost.

In order to appease the masses, a great spire was erected within the city of Rheydin. A clan founded there by the Savants to help empower the masses, to educate them on the history and purpose of the tower. Named Hourglass, this organization now serves as a stepping stone to the mages and priests within. One may seek them out, but be warned, not all are found worthy of the mysteries and power that the tower may bring. Only the greatest of students, and most dedicated even see the chance to rise and become the greatest wielders of their craft Aabahran has seen.
