The Fall from Grace Part II

Eschatology · by Scholar Anadyomene

Pivno spoke out loud above everyone else. "Loyal citizens of Miruvhor! My family and friends, you have known me since I was a child. I would have no harm come to you, but I fear for your safety. My opponent Xsaxis has had dealings with Count Thiosov." The towns people gasped in astonishment. Pivno could see a change in the eyes of his audience. Pivno continued, "As many of you know Count Thiosov is one of our towns most feared crime lords. He is credited with the deaths of eight people and the disappearances of many more. And now you all wish to put his pawn in to power? Clearly you can see that can not be, for the good of our town that can not be." Before Pivno could speak any further a god softened his voice so that the people of the town could hear it not more. It did not take long before the people of the town began to talk back. "Pivno we care not what you have to say, we want Xsaxis!" They all screamed. And so the town was doomed from that point on.

Pivno lowered his head in disgust. He could not believe what had conspired. Why were the people accepting this? He had just shown the entire town that Xsaxis was being backed by known criminals; the town should be in uproar and wanting to hang Xsaxis, not following him. Pivno did everything in his power, nah, everything in his mind he could do to show the people that Xsaxis was nothing more than a dreadful pirate. And yet here he was with the entire town supporting him. 'Something must be wrong someone must have scared the town into doing this, something must be done,' thought Pivno.

Still in shock from what had taken place over the course of

the day, Xsaxis sighed with relief. How one so noble, so honorable, as Pivno could fall so low as to publicly try and ruin him, something terrible must be wrong with him. Yes, Xsaxis might be responsible for some of worst laws in the city but they are only helping the town. The profit of the town has increased substantially.

"That is a good thing is it not?" Xsaxis asked aloud. "My life has taken so many different turns in the past few days and soon I will be mayor. My family was right when they told me that this was the town where I should start a life." Suddenly Xsaxis realized he was speaking to himself. He cared not. Xsaxis had never been more excited in all his days. He had just won the election which would allow him to get his own house; Xsaxis could not contain the smile on his face any longer.

He left his employers house late in the night, fearing he had drank a bit too much and needed the fresh air. For the first time since Xsaxis left his home he finally started to feel like he knew what he was doing; life, it seemed, was going to be alright after all. His mind drifted off to earlier in the day when he received word from his beloved, Angelise. She was coming to be with him. First he got a good job and now he would get to be with his girl as Angelise had finally agreed to take Xsaxis hand in marriage. Life it seemed was finally perfect.

Fury filled Pivnos mind. 'The people voted against me? How could this be? I was, no, I am the towns favorite. Surely this is a trick, something that Xsaxis thought up to corrupt the town.' "It can not be! I stand up for all that is good and righteous in this world. I look out for the towns best interests," he said aloud. The people must have been threatened, pushed into doing something they never wanted to do. They were backed up against a wall. This is the final wrong that he would accept. Xsaxis has committed crimes against the town, the people in the town, but most importantly, himself. And blocking his mind from reason, Pivno began an action that would decide the fate of many.
