General Korvious

Eschatology · by Academician Khranin Tansay

A tale of violence. A tale of romance. A tale of betrayal. This is the tale of General Korvious, the Lycan king and ruler of the ancient race. The man who created the image of the terrors of the east, and led one of the most powerful armies to crush all in his path. The question is, is it myth or fact?

In the most ancient forests of the far east, beyond the sea, there was once a tribe of those of the Lycanthrope family. Alas, their origins have yet to be discovered, but it has been traced back to Korvious, their leader and the alpha of the pack. As far as this Herald knows, he was the oldest, perhaps even the first, Lycan.

How he came to power has yet to be discovered, but it is safe to say that he did indeed gain much. He raised an army from virtually no where, his wife and second in command at his side. He rose to a great status within his territory until his plans were put into motion.

Now, his territory was on the outskirts of the castle of the local lord, whose name has yet to be learned. The lord was relentless and unforgiving, hunting the Lycans down wherever they were found. Korvious could not stand for such and ordered that an attack be made. For hundreds of years they fought, viciously.

For the duration of the war no side could defeat the other. The humans severely outnumbered the Lycans, but the Lycans were indeed strong, much stronger than the humans, and therefore needed less troops. It seemed that there would be no winner until one fateful afternoon.

Now, Korvious was a strong leader, but every leader needs aid. He appointed his brother as his supreme general and personal guard. The two of them were as close as any brothers could be, except for one thing. His brother coveted Korviouss wife. Now, it was a great sin within the family of the Lycans to chase after anothers mate, especially that of the alpha.

As the war drew on and on, Korvious began to change. His temper grew ill and he began to tolerate less and less. Punishments for even minor offences grew and there was much talk of rebellion. His brother tried to calm him, but it was useless. Korvious began to see fault with his brother, and when he learned of his desires, and attempted to slay him.

When his wife heard of this, she finally broke down. She had fallen in love with Korviouss brother, and could not stand to see him hurt. It was widely rumored that Korvious could not be killed, that he had ascended to immortal status, but she knew such wasnt true. As she was the only one he trusted, she knew that the only way to kill an alpha was to cut his heart out with a silver blade, and burn it in the wolfs bane root. A task that she attended to herself.

When he slumbered one evening she came to him, and quickly ended general Korvious in his sleep. When his brother learned of the deed he grew very angry, and in a fit of rage killed Korviouss wife. That deed was the catalyst for civil war that would end the Lycan race.
