The Life of Ilthrias Corimak
Faces In Time · by Herald Aikkao
Cormac MacNessa the first True King of Aabahran. It was he who was responsible for building the castle of the knights and bringing them to the table. When he died, the Knights swore to uphold his ideals until such a day that a new king, a True King, would return. To this day there are two living descendants of his long and distinguished line. Irthrier Corimac is one such descendant and king. For he is a descendent of the first son of King Cormac Macnessa.
Our tale does not begin with him however. Ilthrias Corimak is our hero this time and descended from King Corimac's second son. He was born of Ryvin Corimak, Regent of the Castle before Sylf Starkholm and Rayne Corimak. Twins as it were, with a brother named Rilithin. When Rayne became pregnant, she left the castle to go to a safe place. However after her twins were born she was cursed. Knights of the Crown delivered Rilithin and Ilthrias to their father, shortly before his death. She never saw him again.
Toward the end of Prince Ryvin's life, he was often bed ridden. Old wounds of war had long bothered him, and he knew the end was growing near. The twins were just infants at the time. Prince Ryvin knew he would not live to raise them, nor even to see them grow to talk. In one of his stronger days, he made the journey from his castle to the Elven Kingdom, and gave to Dilorry Anah the two small children. Upon his return, he fell in single combat, to Garacci Imbrusse, just east of Marak, a few steps from the Castle. Sadly the twins never knew their father.
Dilorry Anah did a remarkable job raising the children into men of the Elven Kingdom. Though Dilorry Anah is their Aunt by adoption, having no memory of their birth parents she is essentially their mother. Each child was taught everything the historian could offer. Anything and everything that would be important to dukes from swordsmanship to politics was imparted to them and their training was intense.
When the boys were grown and it was time to choose their paths they decided to work together as a team to change the world and make it worthy of a True King. They believed, there are only two true powers with all the religions on one side or the other. Life or Death. The darker religions tend to serve death, and most of the light and balance serve life. Order is a power of life. Zoichan a servant of death. Such is a conflict of interest. Therefore the Knights and the Tribunal were destined for war. When the king returns he will expect all of Aabahran to yield. If Zoichan were removed, a peaceful transition would happen.
Rilithin was ever the soldier and Ilthrias was more of the clever one, a politician. So it was decided that Rilithin would become a knight like his father and mother before him. His purpose with the Knights was to muster the armies of light to rally against the evil and prepare the way for the King's return. It was here, fulfilling this duty that Rilithin was struck down.
Ilthrias' duty was to join the Tribunal: to take reigns of the politics and prepare them for the return of the King. The corruption ran deeper than he could have dreamed though. The entire system itself was a fallacy. He would watch murderers, thieves, and all various other kinds of cretins do their crimes, sometimes just outside the city gate and then they would run. Away from the Empire to flee justice? No, to the Empire to escape it.
So with the wisdom of the One God upon him, Ilthrias Corimak left the service of the Empire and the this marked the opening act of the War of the Guardians. When Jhalice, the last bastion of goodness within the empire, was forced out Sylf Starkholm and Ilthrias Corimak acted. War was declared by Ilthrias on behalf of the Caomhnoiri, and by Sylf on behalf of the Crown. Sylf was named king in the city of Val Miran, and Jhalice Celest the High Marshal. During the war, assassins became a prevalent force and with the royal family being a major target, all of the children of the King were assassinated. This left only two members of the Corimak line and made Ilthrias, prince.
Life has a way of making good things happen in the middle of the bad though. During his duty with the empire Ilthrias happened upon a beautiful lady of mixed elven and human heritage. Her name, Lillithiri, a member in good standing with the Merchants. Sparks flew and flirtations became love. Finally after a long and romantic courtship, the two were wed.
