Heralds of Aabahran · by Academician Grebit Caveswallow

Born a common swallow, Grebits life changed dramatically one day due to a catastrophic explosion of magical energy. Searching for answers he soon found solace searching ancient texts with hope of finding some way to reverse the magic that locked him inside a body quite foreign to him. A natural born singer and song writer Grebit rose quickly among the guild of bards and entertained many of the people of Aabahran in his early travels.

The constant search of ancient texts eventually lead him to the halls of the Heralds. When he arrived the great library stood empty and he found many of the doors remained locked. Attempting to find the keys to the locked doors, Grebit made many friends and continued to sing for the people. Loneliness combined with sadness over the wars of men, Grebit flew away from the halls of the library to seek companionship and answers from his fellow swallows across the ocean.

The swallows refused to recognize him in his current form, and no answers were to be found among the songbirds that might ever change him back. Abandoning all hope Grebit stood on the far shore of the ocean considering the prospect of dying alone. While the other swallows would never accept him, he knew he could do something for them. Grebit dug a long trench on a high hill near the shore and planted many bushes for the swallows to nest in during the winters.

Years passed by, and the swallows Grebit had known before the accident slowly began to disappear taken from the flock by old age and illnesses. Again Grebit found himself at the seashore wondering if he would die alone, and worse how many generations of the swallows would he have to watch pass before him. A voice came to him, its soft singsong nature cooed within his mind, whispering words of hope and love. Grebit fought against the voice within, attempting to forsake the destiny it spoke of, until one day he realized the voice was Lady Fate herself.

No longer able to resist the song within his heart, Grebit took flight once more to cross the mighty ocean. He made his way through Val Miran, astonished that it had withstood the wars surrounding it when he left. As he left its eastern gate, the voice within him grew stronger as it asked him if he intended to rejoin the halls of the Heralds. Without a second thought, he took to his knee and swore to the voice of Lady Fate within him he would serve for as long as he lived.

Soon realizing that another bard also walked the library halls, Grebit became close friends with Master Henvik, the regent Academician. Inspired by the company, he decided he would seek to fill the halls with voices from all over Aabahran. He would not have to die alone, if he could only inspire others to join him. Lady Fate lead him to the company of a beautiful young elf, and Grebit knew instantly their destinies would be entangled.

Meeting the elf became a turning point in Grebits life, he devoted his time toward inspiring others and often aiding them to reach for their own destiny. He decided that to fall in service of others would forever be preferable to dying alone on a foreign shore. He began to plan for changes that could elevate the library in the eyes of all people, that Aabahrans history would not be lost but embraced. He resolved to never again lose hope, whether it meant being berated by Aabahrans queen or even being swallowed by a dragon.
