The Death of Compassion
Historiarum Annalis · by Academician Daemian Sathyr
The days since the fateful event have been slow, and quiet. Each side mourns the death of their respective champion. Now we only wait to see the consequences.
The battle between Malynne and Luqin, the rift against
compassion, was a battle fated for death and failure on both sides. Malynne was once a strong believer in Luqin and his teaching, but rose to her godly status and threw down her shawl of peace. The respect and love they held for each other rotted away in the hatred they allowed to fester in their hearts. As must occur, the student and teacher met on the battle field for supremacy.
The first encounter shook Aabahran, and the Wraith Queen tore Luqin's spirit from his form. The feral shade wandered for a long while, quietly waiting for his servants to return his corporeal person to wholeness. The shards of Lirolas had to be gathered and reforged. They were with the assistance of Bregyn, and many children of compassion. But I have not said all.
Luqin returned with strength and insight. He returned with rage and resolution. The Priestess had to be destroyed, by any means, at any cost. And the cost he paid was dear. Already he'd begun to formulate a means by which Malynne could be eternally vanquished.
There was an item not even the Heralds knew off - a relic so
powerful it's make was hidden from centuries of treasure seekers. This was the Calineux Sphere, who's power would grant the wishes of it's bearers heart. But in return, the life of the individual would be forfeit. It was presented to Isabeau for safe keeping, so that it's power would not be used for selfish purposes. However, when the Heroin brought it from it's hiding, Luqin arrived and asked to take have it for his own.
Isabeau would not break her promise to the Sphere's former
owner, and refused to give it up. She denied her god his desires in order to honor Calineux's request. But Luqin would not be denied, and took from Isabeau the sphere through deception. I must correct my mistake,' he claimed, and turned his back to the crowd.
His ministrations to the cursed sphere began as people began to gather. Innocents were cleared at the request of the warriors - this Val Miran, was to be the scene of the final battle. Demons rose from the earth as Luqin poured his strength in to the sphere. Isabeau and her companions battled the minions of the Rift Walker, tearing down beast after beast as they arrived from their hellish origins. It was not long before Malynne herself arrived. Whilst the heroes were busy, the queen snuck up beside Luqin and shattered the Calineux Sphere. The ensuing howl rang through Aabahran.
The fight between the mighty immortals begun. Luqin cast free his false weapons and reverted to a forbidden stance known only to the greatest of monks. Malynne unleashed her unholy magics unto the Lord of Compassion. Luqin was savagely torn down. Malynne's unwavering assault ruined Luqin's body until he could no longer speak. She did, however.
'I will make you suffer,' The Priestess exclaimed. 'As my slave.'
The words were punctuated by a deep rumbling as the earth was torn asunder. The power of the Nexus hordes consumed Luqin in his weakened state. The warriors of the light could do nothing but watch as their leader was ruined by Malynne's power. But Malynne underestimated the ancient monk, who in the grips of his pain and disfigurement gripped her with his newly formed tentacles. Pulsating black light poured through the appendages as they sucked the energies from Malynne. Luqin arose, and with a terrible roar obliterated the form of Malynne. His blows broke the goddesses body, as his mind and spirit descended in to the beast the queen had made him. With a final, guttural scream, Malynne vanished - sent across the abyss for a second time, by her own creation.
The creature that was once Luqin stood in the square, then, dripping with the blood of it's enemy. It smiled, and spoke a single phrase.
'I dub myself Suibremoront. Supreme Demon.'
