Lytholm, I see the concept of an Avatar as something very different from being Marked by your God... Like the difference between being a Stigmata to being the Pope... As far as I know...there isn't a limit to to how many people can have a specific deities tattoo and you can be in any cabal...those that display great devotion can become marked/tattooed but, to become their Avatar...it could very well be the greatest among them(those with their Gods tattoo)...willing to serve as that Immortal's greatest Champion/Minion/Chosen (whatever you want to call it) in the War against the other God's...

What are these tattooes about? I've never had one and I've never fought someone who has had one... what do they do? What are they given for?

Applications are welcome (but not necessary - Immortal tend to find those who live up to these expectations), remember though tattoos are considered the pinnacle of what it means to represent a certain religion. These are open to all - no cabal necessary though this doesn't preclude you being tattoo'd.

Which was changed after 1.0 anyway so chances are what you used to know isn't right anymore

Agreed Ive had two, Mercea's and the scales of balance and your right when you get one either applied for or when an Imm thinks deserving it is and was most coveted and prestigious.

Even so thats cool too, I still find myself learning alot of Fl even though Ive been here since about 2 months after it began. Still the thrill of receiving a tattoo will never change since it is far rarer then as you stated qclass/race etc..
Receiving a tattoo would probably, and this is a shot in the dark, take you over 300 hours on a character.
If you REALLY want one, app it. However, having a tattoo app rejected I expect would come with some harsh repercussions.
I only say this because getting tattooed....I'd bet there were less than five given out last year. Two were probably apps. Again, my guessing.
Love the staff, but you guys can't be completely omnipotent. 
I once tried for a tattoo back in 2.0 I didn't even get a reply.

Very nice prayer, prolly said it nearly every night since I was 15. Also just because it bothered me. Valek Lucifer was not an Archangel, nor was he an Angel. Angels In Catholicism are broken down into 9 choirs (which is widely believed as to why Dante had 9 circles of hell)

Also Lucifer would have been a Seraphim or perhaps an even higher solo choir Angel. Also in the bible it is said that when Lucifer fell most of his followers were from the Principalities, Archangels, and Angels choirs. After the fall only 7 Archangels remanded on God's side in the fall out of which only 3 of their names are known. Also being the only 3 Angel names we can be sure of.
Given all of that is from a Catholics view point, which as you well know I had beaten into me for years by my mother.
