Autotransform is important.
You cannot get bonuses without some sort of downfall.
That downfall is autotransform that works - as I see it - on your SURVIVAL INSTINCTS and ADRENALINE kick in, causing you to go "ALL OUT" and transform into your more powerful form in an attempt to survive.
It might not work out that way, but I can see the reasoning.
I could see that IF autotransform kicked in when my hp is LOW. But me autotransmation at 500hp? wtf....survival....I dont think so. Anyways this tread was about the all align beast call pets, not autotransformation.
at any rate, besides letting w-beasts into the bard guild, they shouldn't get a dam thing until paladins finally gain flail, hellstream, powerword kill, and slay.
Wow, I wasn't aware that pets had their own aligns. Good to know.
Used to be mercs had their own aligns too...but evils kept buying elven mercs to trick goods they were fighting into killing the merc and getting damnation. Now your pets are your align. While I love the new forms they were given, I still think removing auto-transform wouldn't unbalance the race. Whens the last time a were-beast dominated the pbase?
I remember buying an elven slave and the damn slave wouldn't assist me in combat. I think it was because I was evil. I was annoyed.
Faye wasn't bad. I wouldn't call it dominate, but seriously held his own.
And The Forsaken's werebeast tribunal ranger whose name started with an "A" but I can't remember what it was but I had a warmaster at the time and it was at the same time as Festy had that drow cleric tribunal and they were both really buff and I was glad that Warmaster was allied with them at the time, because you know we had Savants on our hands and once a cold-blooded killer, always a cold-blooded killer, let me tell you, some of those Savants just weren't very nice people, because they weren't always the most honorable bunch and they really liked to interrupt fights with their nonsense about "cabal warfare" and "you stole our standard, and we're not going to leave it on your altar just because you're fighting Randy Dickbreath, but you can keep on fighting him if you want because that'll make our lives ten times easier," but hey, what are you going to do other than tell Randy Dickbreath that you have to put your challenge on hold so that you can go deal with that ugly bastard of a Savant, seeing as how he is attacking your home and he did call your mother a whore, and you have to defend your mother's honor, because after all, you are a Warmaster...
Yeah, that guy did well.
The werebeast was Austa by the way. Or at least that's who I think you are referring to.
Well, I don't feel like doing it, but if you factor in the racial bonuses, werebeast doesn't line up with, or even near par with any others.
Werebeast can be: druid, ranger, berserker
Druid is a qclass, I won't even delve into it much besides saying it is arguable that they make the best druids.
The ranger class, well, they make absolutely terrible rangers. The draw to werebeast is solely the RP. There is no reason what so ever a ranger is going to go werebeast for the offensive bonus........you're a friggin ranger. Offense isn't your weakness, and you're going to want to cover the weakness.
The berserker class, with the recent changes, could be arguable. I can see some potential here, but not in comparission to the size disadvantage you can take. I also want to point out that I don't know a single person here who would claim werebeasts were on par with other zerk races.
So, if the race is balanced, fine. However, the race combinations that are possible with the werebeast don't stand on par with the other combo's that are feasible. Making werebeast solely an RP race. Whether or not that is a bad thing, that's not my call.
The suggestion of nixing the autotransform at 50 is a good idea.
My credentials are two werebeast rangers at 50, and one werebeast zerk at 50.
I'm very curious whats up with this whole werebeast bard thing. I have a semi-Queen of the Damned feeling, considering Lestat was a musical icon with a nasty secret (not that secret, just people couldn't believe it was true). I could see a court bard being favored at court or some such, but having to miss certain important festivals and such because of uncontrolled transformation that would obviously freak out the populace...I just don't see a whole lot of RP angles for a bard which I would tend to think of as spending a great deal of time in cities plying their talents, then becoming a flippin werewolf and creating a nice lynch mob...Its hard to sell records when people are stabbing you with a pitchfork, ya feel me?
I see no fundamental balance problem with removing or changing autotransform.

I like this guy. I might have to rescind that order about fire ants afterall...

REPENT SINNER or...you get the ants!!!
I cant even remember what this thread was originally about.
i think someone was trying to convince us that werebeasts need parry transformed.

I think someone needs to master meditation of blades.
