Should we allow people in clans to hide their affiliation if their cabal allows it too? This would help against "spies", I mean lets face it, you dont always want people to know that you are in a clan.
Clans
Yes.
Uh, clan affiliations are already hidden except to those within the same clan.
Thats my point Pali. Spies within the clan. If someone has a Knight Trusted lets say and also has a lowbie who is a despairling, he will be able to log in and see all the current despair members. Then next time he logs his Knight he will know who is up and coming in despair/nexus.
Since it is not illegal to have more than one char clanned, this sorta makes sense. I am not even suggesting the person is a cheat, but once you learn something it is very very hard to forget it. This way people who would hide their cabal flag when they got in can also hide their clan flag, makng their affiliation completely unknown except to those they trust and the imms.
I agree with the OOC penalty, but I think making this change would be more detrimental and helpful. The majority of clans are meant to foster feelings of comradery, or at least to flesh out the RP of your character among those you are likely to be caballed with later. If everyone in a clan just hides their flag the clan system becomes basically useless beyond letting the cabal imm know you are interested in the cabal.
Sounds to me like another way for people to isolate themselves. Isnt one of the largest complaint on the forum about people NOT interacting?
I could see this being VERY useful for a specific clan. You'll never know whether or not they're on your side or not and it could even work for at least one other clan. You'd still be able to use the clan chat it just wouldn't outwardly show that you are a member to the other members unless you do clan chat. Aside from that if you hear people trying to conspire about killing you and asking each other where you are you can talk to one of the guys leading them to where you 'are' and then tool whoever comes by taking them all out one by one giving you more favor within the clan and possible chance of being inducted much more faster for being so deceitful.
Ah... IF you hide yourself from a clan.. How are people in your clan supposed to know you're in the clan?
...........
No.
If people go abusing OOC knowledge I'm sure Chayesh will find them...and disintegrate them ![]()

That was the point of the idea. Keep from people from using OOC information on one character to use with another. Also I see it useful for the two clans tops because any other clan shouldn't really ever be able to hide it. You hide it from other clan members and they wont know you're competition to get in the Cabal and you could easily kill the guys in your clan to get ahead in the clan yourself.
Lets just do this. When you join the cabal, you should be given the choice to leave the clan.
I'm really sorry... But making it so you can see who is in your own clan just seems like the STUPIDEST idea I have read in a while...
Comming from someone who is running/incharge on one.. If I didnt know who was in my clan?..... WTFPWNZRNEWBFEST.
Still don't see what's wrong with it. You as an Elder or Leader of a clan would easily be able to tell who was in your clan based on certain abilities you have at those ranks. Not only that I was thinking more along the lines of Syndicate and Nexus rather than any other clan since those are the only two it would ever make sense for.

Because it just gives people anothr means to run about silently pking with no real interaction. Now they would be able to join a clan, possibly get into a cabal while avoiding rp.
Just sounds a little off to me, the reasoning behind the suggstion is flimsy at best.
I see the clans as fulfilling a very useful purpose right now, which is strongly encouraging people to interact with each other. Interaction they might not get otherwise outside of looking for hunting groups because few people will just sit around Central Square chatting anymore. With our pbase size, I think anything that keeps what people we have interacting is a good thing.

Yeah it has its abuses, but it also has benefits for potential RP as well. It's not a flimsy suggestion it's quite concrete with the potential of abuse as is everything though. I can think of a few ways how to abuse various race/classes to their full potential. I know at least one other person who knows some of the things I do as well as more. Difference is we don't go around abusing them (at least I know I don't) just to get ahead on someone. If someone were to go around just silently PKing you can report it. There's a rule in help Rules that states quite clearly that EVERY PK has to have an RP reason behind it in order to make it justifiable. If you suspect people of going around silent PKing you have a right to report it and if you don't you have no right to really bitch about it either.
