This thread is only a partial attempt at a humorism. It does seem a waste to limit an entire race to only one class.
Illithids
Go apply for an Illithid warrior/zerk. 
Illithid thief! You can steal entire inventories at a time. No drop you say? Get outta here, tentacles can suck like nobodies business.
Make psionicist a normal class, let illithids be them too!
Ah no. Have you tried killing a competant illithid? All I can say is oblits through sanc every round is NOT funny. Sure they take time to set up and blah blah... that sort of power i do not want running around with every tom dick and harry.

physically, they have unwieldy tentacles for hands and little to nothing going for them in the combat world. so the mud RP lends no other profession to them. back when psi's were playable, they were even doper as a race. i think it's only a matter of time before psi's are given back to the general pbase. (i hope!) also, illithid is the only race that is truly worth their xp penalty. i'm not saying that the other high xp pen races are %100 unworthy of their penalties, but illithids have racial abilities that are unique to them unlike autosneak and fly.
there have already been multiple attempts to nerf the race too, as some people's vision of a good MUD is slowly making all races almost indistinguishable in terms of abilities. so you have to keep on guard for that.
