What gives? I want more options, dammit!
Monk: human, half-elf
Blademaster: human, feral, gnome, half-elf, dwarf, duergar, avian, halfling, slith, elf, drow
Okay maybe feral monks would be too crazy.

Monks can only be those two races (well, those and undead) for a) balance reasons and
RP reasons.
doraemon!!!!yay pretty surprised you have him as your avatar he's so old..

Actually, why are the same balance restrictions levied on BLMs?

Slith monk! Haha. drool
I'd take a dwarf monk too. ![]()

And so rad. Magic pouch that produces anything? CHECK.
a) balance reasons
I don't see it, except in the cases of ferals or halflings. EDIT: Ok, ok, and dwarves and sliths, for megasaves and laglock, respectively.
RP reasons.
I just don't have a very hard time imagining individuals from the excluded races as martial ascetics; the elven races and werebeasts are a natural, even sliths or gnomes could work. Illithid monks would be very interesting, especially if the class gained a spell or two. Minotaurs are too top-heavy to be flying around, though, and the giant races probably don't have the discipline.
slith monk would be ENTIRELY too overpowered.
Slith Monk barbarian. The lag machine of all lag machines.
I would rather like to see neutral monks.
i would hardcore like to see neutral. it makes the most sense RP-wise. the argument about neutrality being too powerful b/c it cant be protected against is very weak. why? you can have a neutral BLM.
as for races, yeah i can see how extraracial monks arent too hard to imagine, but personally i always associate monks IG as that traditional eastern martial arts..."thing" and seeing some dwarf or whatever doing monk things turns me off.

And if they were evil, they would be the hardest to dirt lag machine of all lag machines.![]()
I guess I just don't understand why elf, and drow, can't be added to monk lists, and why they can't be neutral. All those things make sense.
No one said you couldn't become such, just RP it and you might even get away with being neutral without losing skills. Didn't Red have a Neutral monk? Or was he still Good?
Had a D name, I remember him.
Damian I think. Been a while since I last thought of him or any old character for that matter.
I wouldn't see why you couldn't just roll up an Adventurer and rank up to 30 and sit there and apply to become a monk as either an Elf/Drow, now whether you actually get it or not I don't know, but it might be worth it.
well -Red- had a monk named Damian was a half elf which became a neutral then had a a restrung to sage. But when he became neutral they gimped him.
i think halfling monk would be pretty balanced and cool
Until it used dragon stance, and you had a mag resist, normal sized, 25 dex monk hitting for sanced disintegrates.

I don't think we should have neutral monks - BUT - a halfling monk would die to a giant warrior or zerk lag locking them if there even thought about coming out of defensive.
Again - why aren't blms restricted the same races as monks?

Just because, why can't monks be neutral?
