If we're going to begin a serious campaign to attract new players, we need to start with an updated website. The latest "news" on there talks about rolling into 2006. Even some quick updates, if not a total revamp, would do the trick. I, however, am a fan of a temporary fix that holds us over while a total overhaul is being done.
Thoughts?
I agree. I've mentioned before that the highlights of the MUD needs to be on the main page instead of the About section.
I agree, an up-to-date website is key. If whoever is in charge of the website wants to PM me I have a copy of dreamweaver MX and would be happy to help with some regular updates.
Isn't it Chayesh that does the website?
For god sakes, remove that music! It's embarassing. While catchy at times... Not something i'd want first time players to hear. They'll think we're a bunch of geeks!
For music: Union Underground "Turn me on Mr. Deadman"
As for an update, yeah, if anyone has time. I'd just continue to point people to the forums. I really liked the old format of the web page...the flash with the song by Godsmack, the examples of applications for demons and undead...THAT was cool.
And the addicts of the month page
I say remove the music all together. Music on a webpage limits access to that webpage in workplace environments (and is annoying the 700th time you hit the website). While I'm not saying we should encourage productivity drops, we can at least acknowledge and....facilitate them.
I also find the page loads slowly due to the music.
bring back the addicts, and add a graveyard, if you want you skill set/stats, pk record, desc, etc added on there, paypal donation of 5 or 10 bucks, fl t-shirts heh.
:edit: so i'm an idiot and just missed the whole timeline/history part of the website

I bet if we got a couple of loaded volunteers to donate some serious money we could just hire someone to do this stuff professionally. We could even have FL fundraisers (can you tell I work in the non-profit world?) and become a NPO ourselves! Hahaha, a MUD as a 103b company. That'd have me laughing for days.

My thoughts on the website is that it just needs to be simple and accessible. Get the message across in regards to what we're about, make it easy to find and access any information. This works in two ways, makes it easier for players and prospective players to access the site (and subsequently the MUD), and, a simple website would probably be easier to manage and update.
You can still have websites with clean, simple interfaces that look professional/smart.

Here's the problem with this.
I have been working on and off when possible to create new, much cooler website (flash-enabled or something cool like that).
The problem I have is that my html skills are meager at best (I'm not thrilled with the current website but it serves the purpose, as Deykari stated, which is all it was ever intended to do).
Basically it amounts to high level of frustration and angst on my part because I cannot seem to make work anything nearly as cool as I would like to create for FL.
Rest assured, however, that the website has not been forgotten nor its importance overlooked, especially when it comes to the recent influx of new players.
(loads up his html creation editor YET again while muttering profanities)
Hehe, poor Chayesh. I agree the music should be taken off. Updates should be added, addicts section should be put back in and definitely a hall of fame section for 1.0 and 2.0. And that old flash option of the cabals with that bad *** music that used to be on the old site. Those last two used to motivate me to play like no other. No matter how much of a hard time I had learning how to play and taking full loot after full loot those simple things helped me to keep going.
And a list of known bugs.....and even unknown ones!

Kudos for taking the effort on our behalf. I would suggest if you find the task hard going, to just get a simple framed html page up and forget about flash for the time being, (thats unless you want to learn flash). What is most important is an informative page and things flying around if not done right is not always good.
Also, do we have no web developers in our pb?? I was under the impression nowadays that they are so common that you can randomly throw a stone in the street and hit one.
