There is what I am sure will be a hand to hand fight going on in the alrwyth thread about people posting deletes with delpasses.
Thought about maybe a solution.
If you type delete;delete on a char with a delpass, you have 24 hours to log back in and its undone.
I don't know, just seemed like a cool idea to me.
My limited perception of things from a coding vantage also limits my ability to see how this would work.
But isn't this pretty much the same thing as pre-emptively asking an IMM to restore your character after you delete?
Sounds like a "Cool-down" phase to me. I don't see how it would be a problem seeing as many regret deleting a day or so later. Would save people alot of time. And perhaps limit the number of uses before a person is deleted automatically.
Wouldn't work because you can always scramble your password to truly make your character inaccessible.
All you newbs out there just need to learn how to NOT delete.
Don't want the char? Stop logging on. 'Nuff said.
...Though I must admit, TDP would be very proud of all of you
How about just making a rule on the forum disallowing posting of deleted characters(though condead characters are fair game).
I suggest this because there have been many times where I contemplated deletion just to see what people would say about me.
I'm against that rule. Some people RP their chars so that when they roll them up they KNOW they will delete after some key event happens.
Myrek spoke of this, I believe.
I personally don't do it but why should we punish those who do? I myself admire that kind of dedication to RP, however insane it may seem.
Plus the fact that some people may have long-lived characters that are just ages away from condeath that are just ready to be ridden off and the player wants to give a few goodbyes on the forum.

I almost like the Idea. Perhaps insted of twenty four hours after simply delete delete, you have to enter a command prior to in order to get the safety net, like delsave or something. Take out the delpass command and keep deletes the same.
If this were to be implemented, I would also think that there should be some punishment for posting a character score without actually deleting but the character is gone and I cant think of anything aside from a temp ban, which would be unnessary in my oppinion, that could be done.
Now I must ask the question, how much do the imms actually mind denying a character? And if they actually do mind, is this such a problem that something like a code change would need to be initiated? Dont get me wrong, I like the idea of having a chance to re-think things but is it nessessary?
Players posting on any forum but the Prayer Forum or Shoutouts which char they play will get that char denied. As it is this is a circumvent of having set a delpas right now. I think MOST of our pbase is mature enough to know wether they want a char gone or not.
If in doubt, set delas, log off, sleep about it and THEN decide.
Actually as an alternative I would suggest a timer after death during which you can't delete. Say 24 hours game time.
I believe that is only to mobs, but I dont know for sure.
You can delete or quit after any death, mob or player, though being executed is an exception (you can't quit after being executed, not sure about deleting after execution.
You can't quit/delete after recently fighting though.

You cannot delete immediately after death, however you CAN quit.
Try it sometime, just don't hit delete more than once

You can delete immediately after death, both player and mobdeath. Trust me. I did it today, and various times in the past where I've rolled characters to test something, found myself unable to delete after recently fighting, so killing BIG MOB then deleting right after.
Mob's punch *** DEMOLISHES *** you!
You have been KILLED!!
As the cold chill of death descends upon you Chayesh grants you yet another chance.
You have been granted a temporary sanctuary as an invincible ghost.
As long as you don't attack anything.
delete
Type delete again to confirm this command.
WARNING: this command is irreversible.
Typing delete with an argument will undo delete status.

Just tried it now to make sure.

Im pretty sure thats not right. Im curious if there is a level that you get to or beyond, and then the delete after death sets it. After I died to Fenle, I had to wait a bit to delete. The imms probably just dont care if you delete your lvl 5 fire zerker quickly after its 5 minute life span.
How do you think people rage delete when they just got killed?
In the past month or so, I have rage-deleted a gnome invoker at about 30-ish that took a mobdeath when I tried hunting solo. Instant delete. I've also deleted a 40+ character that got slain and full-looted because I made a ton of idiotic mistakes and I didn't really get into the character much anyway.
I have deleted characters straight away (rage deletes) after taking foolish deaths against other players, and I know I'm not the only one. Are you sure that after getting killed, you didn't attack something first?
I know, however, that if you have been killed from an execution, you can't quit. Delete? Maybe, but I'm not sure.
