Lets make the joining of the academy a quest so that we encorage the most experienced players to join and help newbies while they are (the veterans) in their lower ranks.

See most of the newbies do not join the academy, and mostly because of the lack of insentive. I normaly do because i like to help and buy cheep ducks.*

part of the reason I don't join the academy any more is that I don't want to be a herald. when clans and cabals were seperate, you could be a wanna be and still teach/help at the academy.

It's a problem that the IMMstaff has recognized as well. Suggestions on how to fix this would, of course, be listened to.

Have people, on char creation, auto-join the Academy. As soon as they enter Aabahran they are already a member and have a mob or text explaining this on first start. Since not all players will want to be apart of the Academy we can whip up a few things for them. First, since everyone would now have to join as a newbie, they'll have to suck it up till lets say rank 15+. After this point if they so choose they are allowed to leave the Academy for their RP reasons or that of joining another clan.

I myself would love to help. -chuckle-

I will hopefully eventually stop being attacked enough to write some and actually be inducted as a Herald, and still teach, a labor I'd happily take up.

I'm not some supervet or pk master but heck, I can loan a hand for newbies and such.

Isn't Dulanhain a professor? And I know he -isn't- an actual academy member, or at least wasn't...

Is there an easy way to make another layer of social orgs? short of changing the cabal system back to the way it was, that is the only thing I can think of. Well, that is if you want all the bells and whistles of a clan/cabal.

If you just want to restrict access to an areaor make it safe from combat, make a mob that gives out oowner, no rot items that must be on your person to get by the mob. Or edit the academy rooms themselves and give them the bells and whistles. Give special oowner/no rot keys to the instructors. Make the area no combat like the arena bleachers. And have the area boot people out if the doors are locked. You'd have to hand out the keys to select people and watch them so they don't abuse the system. You could even set up a mob/obj at the enterance with a list of instructors. The only downfalls I see to these suggestion is work to set up, no mass notes, and chance of abuse.

It would be really cool, if you could be Academy Member and Member of another Clan at the same time.

I join say hope as fast as I can, so that I may get my name around the halls for quests and such, but would like some help or give help to/from the academy at the same time... hmm perhaps.. make Academy Channel... like EVERYONE gets the channel, they can turn it off if they want, but like the Heralds control the channel, like have (V) or (T) or (L) and can promote helpful people to say (M) that way everyone has the chance to be in that channel if they wish and help.

I dont know, think that would detract from the academy and its SEPERATE entity.

Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't a simple solution be to make a new clan as the feeder to Herald. Then give the Academy halls some nice extra shops etc...stuff that can be bought, but currently people need to go all over the lands for, and it should be sold at a higher price than in other stores. This would give newbs a reason to join the academy, as thing that are soooo influential at high levels would be available to them, but would not cheat more established people, as they could still travel to the other places for cheaper prices.

I would say however that people would have to leave the academy to join other cabals, to stop people just joining for the shops in the academy. They could then apply directly to the academy if they wanted to join as a teacher, but not as pupil.

Yes and no. If you see someone in a cabal, you automatically denote that they're a step above the crowd. While this isn't always so, it's still first reaction. Since we have feeder clans, a problem is that you cannot be in a feeder clan AND be in the academy, so replacing the academy with another will potentially create another set of problems for all the cabals, instead of all but Heralds concerning teaching in the academy.

I can see abuse with this one. Gold is easy to come by. Except for newbies. A person that has a million in the bank, when they died can go to the shops, and have everything that they want sitting at their fingertips. Why would I need to travel all the way to one side of the land for one thing, and across to the other for others? This would be the worst thing you could do, IMO. Even if this new academy was auto-expell like the arena, it would be abused by those who know until they are. No sir, I don't like it. There are reasons that shops are spread out.

So influential at high levels, but you need to be of a certian level to get them. IE: You have to be 5th level or greater to buy a short katana in Val. There will be no point for some of the items sold in this 'new store' when you have to be 30th or even 40th level to buy them. Being so influential at higher levels just means that those 'more established' people could buy it cheaper, would probably not. Again, why run all over then lands to save a few thousand gold, or have everything you need right here, right now? Even at lower levels.

This is the most mixed suggestion in the post. I don't see people leaving to rejoin, even if it is to be a teacher. Or perhaps they would, but they'd still have access to those nifty shops. No sir, again, I don't like it. Have to leave the academy to join the other feeder clans? That I kind of like. But we go back to my first on this one. Caballed people being seen initally as a step above the crowd.

What we need is the ability to be in the feeder clans and join the academy. Or something along those lines. And still be benificial to newbies without spoiling or unbalancing 'those who are in the know.'

A series of suggestions could be:

1. Create a new feeder clan for the Herald.

2. Have your guildmaster in Rheydin give you the quest to, or tell you about the academy. Or something of the like.

3. Leave the academy halls as is, but instead of it being a clan, give a new channel to those that join. Granted, this means another channel for Imms to moniter, but it could be like an extension of the newbie channel. Or even allow those that enter the academy access again to the newbie channel if one isn't created. Therefore, the academy guard now checks 'newbie' instead of 'academy' to allow access to the classrooms.

If I'm following, you're saying that only the Heralds will have access to the academy (herald feeder) and the secondary school (newbie school). That kind of defeats the purpose of having a new feeder clan for the heralds and of those in other cabals to access the 'newbie school' to teach them, since they'd like to keep their own feeder access.

no the hierarchy will be herald (has access to both), the teachers (feeder clan) will arange with the heralds times for lessons and the like with notes (making it more like a school) the students will be those in the academy. Also it might be a good idea that only people who get to a certain rank in the academy could apply for teaching.

Back in 2.0, Inductees and memebers were students, Vets little more. I don't remember there being many Vets. The teachers trusted. Elders and Leaders were those that not only provided lessions, but recruited as well. Something that could work as well now if it's not in use already. Last time I've joined the academy was when the feeder clans were introduced simply because of the inability to teach in the academy and remain in the feeder clan. That's the problem I'm trying expand on.

Overall, it looks like all you're doing is changing the structure slightly of the academy and it's parent cabal. Nothing more.
