Is it the book of swords?
Yes. The Book of Swords by Fred Saberhagen.
I note, for the record, that I did not need to look any of those up. ![]()

Hehe, I think I've got the first book somewhere. Been forever since I read it though. Maybe that's a different series......
Solid, of course. But I prefered
The Mindsword spun in the dawn's gray light
And men and demons knelt down before.*
The Mindsword flashed in the midday bright*
Gods joined the dance, and the march to war.*
It spun in the twilight dim as well*
And gods and men marched off to hell.*
As it always so well described the result of using the sword.
True. I always favored Farslayer and Soulcutter, simply because I like the concept of sacrificing yourself to destroy others. There's a certain 'justice' in it, but also shows a certain dedication. But yes, after those two, Skulltwister definitely comes next on the list.
Actually, my favorite (after Shieldbreaker) was always Doomgiver, because I loved the idea of turning your opponent's weapons against him.
I wish Doomgiver had been featured in more stories, honestly.
But Mindsword was so fun because things always get so out of hand when it is drawn.
