Avg Time Required - Start to Pinnacle

Been gone a long time. See a LOT of changes.

Looks like new chars will have to gain experience mostly solo. Exp gains seem to be significantly bumped though. Going from lvl 1 to lvl 50 is a totally different experience from the FL I used to know. So trying to figure out what a realistic expectation of getting to pin now looks like.

  • Is fastest ranking done through hunting?

  • Are guild quests allegedly faster? (remember, I don't have most of the MUD memorized anymore, so moving will be slow, especially through new areas I've never seen)

Years ago, it took at least 40 hours to pin (60 if you're enjoying yourself plus training). Not uncommon to take 80 hours if you're just enjoying the MUD. That still the rough ballpark? Also, how is most of that time spent?

Hunting to mid to late 20s. Then medium guild quests is typically fastest for me unless you get a rocking group going

How many hours of play time does it take tho?

Realistically if you hammer it out it can take 12 or less depending on your race/class. If you stop to smell the roses it might take 17.

I’ve found that goods/evils are usually faster if they’re killing mobs. You can get 2k plus per mob. Most leveling until 40 will be solo, from my experience. Getting a stone golem and alsatian/kangaroo/gorilla/soldier makes things much quicker. I would say if you can kill mobs without too much downtime, it’ll be faster than questing. But sometimes transitioning to higher level mobs is dangerous, so quests can bridge that gap.

Questing is less dangerous, and sometimes inconsistent. Around mid 20s to 30 it’ll be a lot of elemental and brambus, but mid/high 40s might send you to winter.

I would say as long as you’re killing stuff without much downtime, stick to that. Otherwise medium quests are solid.

I would say that most people could do it in 10-14, but it depends on how much training and gear gathering you do.

You can pinn in one day easily.

You can easily get to 50 alone mostly trained in 12 to 14 hours as a ruthless or moderate, quicker if hardcore.

With no distractions I can usually oinn, full train, and deck in 2-3 days

I've done a cleric to pinn (without complete training but some training done through ranking) in less than 8 hours.

I'm pointing out cleric because its a harder class to get 'ramped' up with. With a ranger I would dare say I could get that down to... 5-6?

I'm usually about 15 to 20 hours to pinn with most training done

Let's say it takes me 25 bc I'm a noob again. Fl is two different games. Pre pin and at 50...no idea how to play one to get to the other anymore.

Do you suggest moderate ruthless or hardcore?

Class? Thinking DK or ninja..thinking something that doesn't require tons of prep /requirement on eq. And no straight mages...

Ranger was mentioned, and I think that’s a solid choice. Pets, can create a staff, possibly bow and arrows, good offense and defense. Herb and camo also keep you pretty safe.

Moderate beast ranger will have by far the lowest barrier to entry for competitive play at 50

I would avoid moderate and just do ruthless.

The perks of PK protection are not really needed at the loss of rare equipment which eventually you will want to learn for future characters.

Personally, I've never seen why you should rush to 50 in a matter of 1-3 days. How will you get your character developed is so little time? I usually take it slower, giving myself time to be influenced by ppl I meet, the current plots, etc. I almost never hit 50 before I've at least written a couple of journals to flesh out my character's past and also incorporated stuff that currently goes on that is important to them.

I'd say my usual time to pinn is about a week, to 1.5 weeks. (I usually also do adventurer for the easy train, easy 100% skills when remorting, additional 20-30 hp.)

Have been pinned and trained in 8 hours.
