Journals

OK I just recently returned and wondering how do journals work? I type help journal and just brings up the Notes. I understand how you make one but how do you post it? When I tried to it states something along the lines of a recipient. So I'm a bit confused on what it exactly is. I thought it was something like an actually journal that you keep in game. Thanks in advance.

Almost without exception, you will start with

Journal to Immortal

Journal subject "Your Journal's title"

journal + [content]                         You can do this a sentence at a time.

journal format                                This will word wrap your journals so they look really nice.

journal show                                  This command will show you what you are working with at any time.

journal post                                    This is how you submit your journal to be sent.

journal list                                      This command will show you all the journals you have already sent.

Help notes should reiterate this in game, just replace "note" with "journal".

The key difference is that journals are only sent to immortals and often will be rewarded with RP points. 15 is the maximum you can get off of one journal, from what I understand.

Or do like a pirate.

Journal to immortal

Journal title Captains log ......

But @Twinblades713 is right. For most things you can use text editor for the typical note helpfiles apply. (.h) in the editor is a usecful tool for clearing cobwebs.

Treat the journal like a diary.

Kind of.

What you write in it is up to you.

I personally like to write naughty stories. Anume enjoys them a lot. That's my secret to 1k RP.

Edited

You can only "journal to" immortal and yourself.  Immortal is required, yourself is redundant.

[note/application/journal/etc] edit

The editor is awesome.  Edit lines, replace lines, insert lines.  It even formats your paragraphs as paragraphs (instead of one giant lump) so long as there's a space between them.  Use it for everything writing related.  The days of "note + " are back in the stone age.

I don't treat journals' like a diary all the time. Sometimes its a short segment from a different point of view

Could be a farmer witnessing something your character did.

Could be a sellsword who took up arms with your character and he is describing your deeds or what it was like to be with you or maybe he reflects on some quotes you told him.

There are so many different angles you can use journals for. It just helps building backstory and depth to your character in one way or another, and you get rewarded twice for it.

OK so it goes to the IMMs no matter what. Then will it go to myself as well or do I have to send it to myself? And do the journals delete automatically or stay no matter how many accumulates? Again thanks for the info and help. So much has changed and so much is the same as well.

Journals and notes are automatically kept in your own little list, doesn't matter who they're addressed to.

Journals and notes do get deleted, but only after a time.  Something like a month or when the Imms get swamped and want to clean up for notes.  Journals stick around a bit longer.  Generally, a lot longer.  The only one I can recall offhand getting purged took about a year to do.

Journals can actually be impacted in the game world too. Though I am not sure how it works entirely.

For example, if you're writing about a cult uprising in Hamlet or something to that description and it makes sense in the game world, sometimes the IMM reading it will create mobs and edit things in the game world based on your journals. At least, that's happened in the past for many characters. I think that still goes on to a certain degree.

I've been trying to use them to keep notes on IG interactions.

When my character has a "purpose" I use journals to document work I've done on that front.

Anyone use Gmud and find that when entering the text, if you don't go one line at a time, it creates a weird lag for input?

do you turn off.... it think it's called syntax checking? those 2 buttons at the bottom right. 1 is triggers and I'm talking about the other one.

That is what I thought they were used for so I tried posting it and found out it's something a bit different :swoon:  but will see that I post them and see what happens. To the IMMs if I do it wrong sorry please let me know.

@CauthontheGambler

When I'm doing things inline with my "purpose", I send them to immortal. Otherwise, I send it to myself.

I don't see it.

My mistake. Was thinking zmud. Gmud and mudlet both felt laggy to me.

It's 365 days/1 year on the dot. :)
