How to get -800 ac?

I keep hearing it around and how it makes melee's cry. How do I get it?

You start off with a great pair of kneepads working in the brothel, after a bunch of years nobody wants to touch you. THATS -800 ac, ;)

There are some key equipment pieces that are required.

Namely the coifs from the first guy in the arena and muddy baubles.

Using armor/shield/flesh armor/stone skin is a must too and having a high dex helps a lot too. I found that using a shield is required too.

Other noteworthy ac items are:

Crustacean rings

Eog armor

Warshield of invulnerability or stone slab.

For magical ac, the stuff in elemental is really good.

I had all those and the spells up, breaking around -600 ac. Where do you get the other -200?

Any of it enchanted?

No but does enchanted give you that much?

It adds up man.

If you want, you can post your EQ list in a PM to me or on prayer, and I can give you a few pieces to look into for replacements. My last char could push 650-700 without buffs.

I'm offering advice, not a road map :P Next thing I know, y'all gonna be asking me to put in your commands for ya too... lol

The problem with going full ac like this is you sacrifice a lot of other important stats. -800 is very difficult to get, -600 with over 1100hp is better imo for a mage.

I don't know about that... I had mage with 1100 plus hp -600 ac with vulnerability. Getting hit on by decked out WM with my sanc and protection getting 6 or 7 MASSACRES. I want to see if it's different with -800.

This isn't a thread about mages vs warriors, I just wanted to experiment with higher ac.

You can do 800 with similar hp with some good eq choice, class, and patience with training. Race is important too, but most have an easy time with it.

Not sure that -800 is always an option. I have been trying to figure out how a certain low dex savant got it. But, I think your going to need some special RP stuff with a low dex. Also, I do not currently believe -800 is possible for moderate characters since they hit the RARE wall before they achieve it. But I am just an old fool.

There's plenty of non-rare, high AC stuff.

I aim for -550 to -700.  Once there

Saves, +parry, +hp, and +spell level are all neccesary.

Always have all of your buffs, if with buffs you push into the -600, shed some ac gear for hp when possible.

AC is better than hp.   And yes there are key pieces for every slot.   There are a select few rings with AC rating.   Same With earrings.   There is also a floater with it.   Every piece fully enchanted with buffs on a high dex class with the ac edge can push 900.  And trust me, it makes a difference over 600 even with the diminishing returns.

What chesta says is true.

If your SOLE worry is AC, you can easily push above (or bellow) 800 even.

The thing is, it's not.

FL is about balance. You need a good balance between a large HP pool, saves and AC. And saves and HP do not have diminishing returns.

Then there's hitgain, which is also a very interesting stat.

At one point you need to make the decision whether that -15 AC is worth sacrificing 30-40 HP for. This is where itemization choices come into play.

The two players that have posted above me played some of the best mages that walked the lands in the last 2-3 years. You can see that even they have different styles, approaches and methods. That's the beauty of this game.

It's like watching @Fireman and @Anume argue which is best, all hit/dam low-saves build, or a balanced one.

Everyone has his different approach. And often, they all work.

Which means two thing ultimately:

  1. The game is somewhat well balanced.
  2. EQ, after a certain point, plays little role in your success, compared to your overall PK skill.

What f0xx said.

My offer still stands. If you send me a PM with what you have, your eq, race, class, and the direction you want your stats to go, I am more than happy to point you in that direction. If you want a chance at more opinions, prayer forum is also an option.

I found using an awl pike and +parry is a huge help too.
