Description dragons and their slot.

I have a Invoker with a Earth dragon. In their defense, I was an adventurer when I got it though!

Since I came back in June, I've gotten either a dragon or even a wearable armor piece on all but four characters. Prior to that, I'd gotten quite a few as well, but spread out over a lot longer time period. Dragons from what I notice are typically given based on race/class. My latest character I was asked directly what class I was planning on choosing after starting as an Adventurer. They're nice perks to have by any means, I just wish they were updated slightly to be more useful in some cases. Like Earth Dragon would be great if it randomly cast a spell of shield, armor, stone skin, or flesh armor. Regardless though, I don't quit a character if I don't get a reward. I only create a new one when an old one runs its course with me.

I recently rolled a character as well.  Then was asked what I planned on becoming as I too was an adventurer.  I think it has to do with race class.  Give a Dark knight a fire dragon and that can be kinda op Dirt kick/flamestrike from dragon/ember in weapon.  Lots of way to blind.  Who knows though.  I am very happy when I put the work in to write a good description and am rewarded for my efforts.  Its very nice.

I too would like to see some rework of the dragons, I however, would not randomize the earth dragon. If you can count on armor, you do not need to harvest it. If its random you have to harvest armor too.

What I would like to see is new dragons.

  • Tiny Forest dragon < Breathes Chlorine gas with a chance to poison.
  • Tiny Flying dragon < Curls around neck imbuing its companion with flight.
  • Tiny Faerie dragon < Creates food/spring (maybe a fountain of milk?) when companion is harmed by hunger/thirst.
  • Tiny Vampire dragon < Casts a modified form of Vampiric touch to heal its companion.

These are just a few ridiculous suggestions, but my intent is to inspire not to create. Variety is not only the spice of life, it aids in defining Role Play.

As players we have limited choices in class and race combinations, and among those, we further limit ourselves by being adept at certain classes. I have experienced that something as simple as one of these small dragons (which rarely affect PK) can completely enhance my RP. When Anume gave me Mana, the Multicolored dragon, my crusader wannabe with death knocking at the door took it as a sign from the One. I fought back made sader and completed a conquest when I thought the character's life was over.

Tiny dragons are OP, because they make us value and believe in our characters.

So one dragon creates food, another casts vamp touch.

Those are some good, equal examples there.

Maybe make the dragons grow with the age of the character. As they grow they become stronger and give different benefits or more potent benefits. Perhaps it would help promote longevity of characters to see exactly what each dragon does as it gets older.

I always wanted a pet in game...

It could replace cabal pets. Instead of a Vanguard, you could have a white dragon.

This could be done with RP point investment to keep it being a rare thing. 200RP to have your dragon mature and become something better. IE: A mount or a pet that is ONLY able to attack NPCs. It'd be immune from player damage and unable to hurt players unless it is specifically replacing a cabal pet?

Or how about we keep them just the way they are.

I suppose we could do that. I personally don't want to play the same game I played for the last 20 years. I would like to see more ingenuity and updates to attract people. That is why I left AR so many years ago, because FL provided several great changes.

It's because he can't get one. ?

You should check the Bazaar then. The pets there are pretty cool.

They are all good but different. I have noticed they choose which dragon based on RP primarily, at least that's what I think. They might also base it on your race/class as different dragons also bolster different stats. So dex based classes might get a certain dragon over str based classes etc... But that might just have been coincidence in my own experience.

This is true. Its based normally on your class as there are different stats.

Giving you a dragon that is +1 int and wis on your fire giant warrior is a little dumb :)

Fire dragons are the hardest to get. They have the biggest pk advantage (so minor) so they are normally reserved for special cases IMO

How often does the Staff consider renaming dragons?

IE: Ulmusdorn is the one that checks the desc, so you decide to give a different pet like a hummingbird or an eagle, something like that?

Never. Cause you need access to edit the vnums.

So lloth or higher would need to do it and they don't have time to check descs. So you'd need me to be so impressed I tell someone else to do it.

That has never happened.

Challenge accepted.

But it will have to wait. I have a date with condeath first. Need to remember the feeling.

More accurately, I don't need to edit vnums, I just change string values on that specific instance of the object. But still not something ulmusdorn can do. I have been known to do things like this for RP participation and mini-events, but it is very rare in the expenditure - as well it should be, considering its an RP expenditure under normal circumstances.

I can attest, Lloth gave Duhnkal a set of Dwarven Dentures in a little role play gathering we had. Two other folks got restring items as well. Sadly, none of the characters are around now.

The elf involved got a pair of boots made from from the skin of an another elf if i recall correctly. It was awesome.

But were they restrung dragons?  No, they probably weren't.  Restringing an object, if you have the command, is easy.  Restring items with progs on them could very well break the prog (for that item) if you're not careful.

No, they were not dragons.

Glasses, boots, lights, heck I even had my own personal Blonkeywan. But its not what the item is, or does that matters, its the feeling that "this character" has started to make an impact. A primer if you will that, while not required, does often assist in starting the pump in my RP well. Sometimes the Imm has time and cares to share it and the gift comes in a special way, other times we see an immortal gives you . Some would say its the thought that counts, and it does, if the immortals delivered the dragon in a special way that becomes a memory, if they hand me the dragon I ignore the statement. Intent on "discovering" the prize later and RPing my confusion as to where it came from, or to pull it out later and examine it for a different RP angle. Least favorite statement in History = An Immortal forces you to wear a tiny earth dragon. Happened on a character I wanted to go gladiator with. While it would not have stopped me, that particular characters RP was utter fear of magic. I remember traveling with a dark knight around L13 when the dragon cast armor, I screamed like a girl and attacked imbessar to get the stupid cursed dragon from around my neck. Dark knight was a bit PO, yeah, sorry about that but RP > friendship, my fear > your life.
