silence

is there any way to avoid or remove this spell?

Yes, you need to boost your mental saves.

Mana lock is nice, but you still need mental saves for when you can be bashed.

does manalock stop silence?

'MANALOCK'

syntax: cast 'manalock'

Manalock is a very valuable spells for battlemages. While the manalock stands

it will automatically counter any attempt to dispel the owners spells. Note that

such powerful warding not only consumes mana each time it protects you, but it also

requires a continuous upkeep.

No, it stop dispels. But grants -10 spell saves, if I'm not mistaken.

So put it simple there are 3 shields:

Manalock vs mages with saves + dispel protection

Force field vs bashers/bodyslamers

Reflective shield vs physical meelers like pets.

You normaly use manalock vs clerics, shamans and invokers.

Force field vs Warriors, Zerks and DK's.

Reflective shield vs rangers and monks.

But there are many subtleties, like Force field preventing Meteor Swarm from harming yourself. So you might want to use it vs a Invoker.

Then meteor Swarm actually charging your reflective shield.

It's very complicated to say what best to use when. Battlemages are an art.

Best way to deal with silence is to have decent saves.

If you can run decently well, silence isn't much of a problem, since it just causes you to run prematurely and is easy to save against. It is actually probably good if your enemies spend time casting silence...it means they aren't causing damage otherwise. It ends the fight in their favor if they land it, but it doesn't result in a kill, so it is a fail path in the long run. Whereas them spending time failing to land it only gives you more time to execute whatever kill plan you have...

Very similar to having a nodrop, but not cursed shield/weapon against a melee. Melees just can't resist disarming it, lagging themselves for two rounds, wasting time for the most part against a caster. Even better if they go for the dirt/disarm combo, taking half of each tick to execute and not a big problem for most casters. Obviously not the ideal for every situation, but usually, yes.

Blasphemy is far worse because the classes that cast blasphemy also cast mals, and the classes that blasphemy hurts rely on spells to cure mals. BMGs are neither, so it isn't a killer usually--it just prevents casting word of recall, which isn't a huge obstacle to overcome in an escape.
