Ranger Discussion

Feral, if played correctly can be a force to be reckoned with. Mini-haste flee/murder rounds are absolutely killer. Add in any cabal choice and you have a very powerful combo.

Ferals cant be goodies!

Dunno about the nexus one' date=' but the warder one lost herb and camp (iirc).[/quote']

Well being the one that played the Slith ranger warder I only lost one of those not both.

Staff of Retribution (socketable)

Pincer Staff (socketable)

Frigid Staff (socketable)

In addition to those three -- plus ranger staff and Chaosbane -- I can't see how you can say that finding a nice staff is a problem for good-aligned rangers.

As far as what's what between races, I would say that Ogre is naturally the stronger of the two (better against melee) whereas Halfling would be the more survivable of the two (better against casters/communers). Especially given that Avatars can now go up to Elder in Knight, I would also contend that a Ranger Praetorian Avatar could easily be one of the strongest combos available.

Really? We're comparing going to Discord with killing Torilar in Elium?

Pincer staff is never in because every goodie and his *** wants one. Frigid staff is av. IMHO at best and retribution really isnt that good.

Just my opinion - I've been there and played that. I would have more fun playing a warrior then a good ranger.

Personally, I think staffs in general are too strong. Not the item, but the offensive/defensive capabilities with pugil are ridiculous. It's far more offensive than any shield combination and doesn't drop defense too far. I don't have the numbers, but I do have experience. On all my rangers and warriors, if I did not want to take much damage I'd toss up a staff and call it good. If a warrior goes Nexus, they go whip or staff. Supreme offensive capabilities or awesome defense. It's not as effective to go any other way.

Staff + Pugil is way too strong.

I agree, I found a staff was way more defenisve then a polearm on my warriors...

I agree' date=' I found a staff was way more defenisve then a polearm on my warriors...[/quote']

-you meant offensive, right?

-you meant offensive' date=' right?[/quote']

... it's good to have you back, Mya.

Both probably

Now that all the silly staff nonsense is over with.

Good aligned archer your say?

Halfling Sigil should be just about unkillable.

Elf Praetorian has alot of potential as well.

Ogres generally don't make the best archers strictly because of Mana base in my experience. Not saying it cannot be done, but you will be taking unnecessary time because of the small pool.

I thought bad about werebeasts until I played one honestly. My god was I surprised.

Totally disagree with stating ogres are poor archers. Of all my archers, my strongest ones happened to be stone giant and ogre. Massive amounts of HP really help you out last the other archers, warriors, and ninjas that can shoot back. Mana will never be an issue for shooting. Now, if you couple it with cabal skills, insectswarm, and thunder storms, then yeah, obviously you might hit a little low numbers, but still you won't deplete.

Ogres makes the best archers. Hands down. An argument can be made for Halfling as Dumela was ****in' annoying, but still, on an ogre ranger it was not difficult to out damage/out heal.

Werebeast is also a terrible archer. You lose your bow when you transform. Why would you take a path that is useless to you when you transform? But hey, people do well with different races/classes.

Why would you take a path that is useless to you when you transform?

Werebeasts lose archery when they transform, but if your not going the pure archery route then the non eq dependancy of an archer ranger means

you are lowering your eq dependancy and making it a bonus, not a necessity.

thats 20/20 naked, Add in absolute basics and your looking upwards of 45/45 in rubbish. Eliminating the need for EQ is a huge boost that alot of people overlook that I feel is worth mentioning.

I miss Kadrinath

Removing the factor for EQ dependency was a valid statement when everyone didn't have insane top level equipment. It's now too easy to get equipment to use that as motivation for a PK style. Now, if this were Kadrinath's time, I would totally agree that not needing EQ was a MAJOR bonus when rares were so hard to get.

The one in nexus was pretty beastly. Even with the gimpage.

she's not gone, just shelved
