Let me put this as delicately as I can...

You knowing where specific pieces of eq can be found has jack to do with whether or not a veteran player can smash you into the ground. We can do this because we've been playing this game for nearly a decade, we know the ins and outs of most areas instinctively, we know the classes, we know the skills, and we know what is effective to use when. We know when to avoid a fight, and we know when it is perfect for us to pick one. We know what moves not to make, and we know how to capitalize on your mistakes.

I don't NEED to keep EQ locations and the like secret to skew a power balance. The power balance is already in my favor just fine, because I've been here a VERY long time and that experience serves me well. However, I follow and support the rules regarding keeping EQ locations secret on the forum because I agree with the already-explained rationale behind it.

A veteran chess player will beat a new player whether or not the newbie knows about en passant.

You have to get the info on AIM. It's not given out here because the IMMs watch the forum.

Yeah, there are probably some f***wits about but as Valek said they are in the real minority around here.

If you asked me that in game (providing I had time and our aligns/RP permit - can't help goods if I'm evil :-) ) I would:

• Take you to get something

• Tell you of others

• Ask if there was anything else you needed

• Ask if you could help me get something (hint: ALWAYS say yes - you get to see the eq others are using and where they get it, how easy it is to get etc)

If you were being killed by a qrace on the forum I can do nothing to help you. In game I can:

• Ask you what is happening

• Tell you about my experinces fighting them (if any)

• Suggest some strategic adjustments (hint: this means give you a clue as to what there weaknesses are in regard to the class you are. You mightn't get it spelt out but you'll work it out on your own in pretty short order)

• Get us both battles prep'd and fight you (not to the death) to see where you're falling down. I can show you pretty easy in actual PK certain things at very little risk of death in a sparring session.

I can do a lot for players in game if they ask my characters - most other players do as well. About the worst that can happen is someone says no to helping you. At which point you just ask the next person in group range :-)

How do you think some of us found this stuff out - we played and worked stuff out. Other times we were pointed in the right direction and that helped us work it out. Cabals can help a lot with this since you have people who will help you.

but why is this off forum knowledge? there must be lots of players who have eachother on msn and aim - you just punish those who do not do that.

so much OOC stuff is shared via aim its safer not to use it. also, its habitual. and damn near impossible not to say everything to everyone from fl on aim, so there are no secrets. which is bad. you dont want people ooc knowing things

Fact is, nobody can control aim, but we CAN control the forums. If you want to use AIM and ruin the fun of finding out IG then so be it. But believe all of us when we tell you that finding out in game will be 100 times better than simply reading it over aim.
