How does someone do emotes without using their name? I've tried to read all of the help files, but nothing covers this. Is it only an immortal thing?

if i am not mistaken, if you are invisible and the person doesnt have a detect invisible active, then it shows as "Someone"
Yeah, or a herald thing. If you're really skilled an don't abuse it... there are several ways to make other stuff happen that doesn't really use your name.
Like smote-ing. You can always just quietly slip your name in there somewhere but makesomething else the center of the smote.

As you said, it's an immortal thing. As I said, it's a herald thing. Barring these two, to my knowledge, no you cannot.
Can bards do it too with a special skill?
