Eh. I like the high mana and insane defense more than I like high hp and an extra couple points of hit/dam (and there are still plenty of great weapons for an elf pally).
Any archer ranger is prolly the best to solo with. Don't forget about tame if your arrows are being lame.
Forget all that.
Half Healer Chance. Focus on AC gear, and some Managain eq.
If you wish to be able to use the character for some Pk then:
Dwarf Cleric chance.
Duergar Cleric Discord.
My Healer could beat the 2 first gauntlets from gear alone. Unrared. 
You can solo almost anything with a Halfer healer.
I would say Healer...but if you are not fond of them...Dwarf Cleric. Easy to survive, and regardless of being good...you can still identify all equipment you come across and save the location and info for times when certain char's of yours can use them. Ogre/Stone ranger would be my third choice...easy to survive from mobs (in most cases) and players, can identify (though a pain)
