Yes. When I referred to abuse I was talking about ogre/drunk. However there is another very important element that none of you seem to have realized and I will not push it further.
I will just say that where is more abuse going on than the ogre/drunk and more directly related to "balance."
I will also agree that emote speech DOES enhance roleplay. Though does it need to be used every time you speak? No. In fact, variation is key. Too much of a good thing can be bad.
smote In a deep voice says "Lo der elfie boyo." - If a character did that EVERY single time it would be just as boring and bland as " says"
Though spicing things up, and eliminating or reducing redundancy would make this tool much better.
Redundancy you say? Yes. If someone speaks in a deep voice, it is easily assumed he will continue to speak in that same voice for the duration of the conversation unless told otherwise. How many books have you read lately that said, " speaks in a deep voice" every time the character said anything? Not many because no one wants to read that.
Using aliases and "altering" your say command with emotes isn't better RP. It's lazy RP and it shows.
