So when i get my new pc i decided i'd like to have a bash at an invoker. Will most likely go with good align, elf seems to be the logical choice, but elf hp makes me want to cry. Looking at avians stats and autofly i'm suprised they don't get much action, does the extra 4 intel and autosneak really outweigh better str wis and con, same dex, no equip restrictions and lower exp cost?
Invoker races.
I like avian mages personally, much easier for me to play.
Autosneak clowns my face.
If you ask me, faerie is the BEST invoker race.
Any particular reason? On paper they just look like elves with autofly and even less hp.
Because of the massive amount of mana they naturally have. They're the ogres of mana. You will NOT need eq to be able to fully charge a staff, and can instead focus everything on hp/saves.
Pali Knows Best... eww that can be an FL greatign card...
Have a shattered looking Human Paladin with a fairy at the end of his sword and it says on the front... "Paly Knows Best" and on the inside it has the paladin impaled by the faires sword (I know funny) and it says "or did"
Yea, pali said it best, Faerie invokers are the mage equivilant of ogre zerks.
Autofly and autosneak means you cannot get dispelled then triplocked, you never have to worry about 50k for flight orbs/scrolls, and you will have a crazy amount of mana, coupled with faerie mental regen (which from my sources is the fastest of any of the races) you have the potential to have a seriously destructive voker.
On a side note if this is your first invoker, spend time learning about mana charge and all its uses, because an invoker without a staff done right is half what it could be.
Dont think faeries do not have inconvenient.
If your protection shield falls, your EXTREMELY low size will make you roll to the Isle of Souls vs any skilled basher.
Size affects also a variety of skills, especially the lag related.
And thieves will have a field day with you because of the Lack of Faerie Fog/Fire. Although a Faerie Battlemage would be far worse due to FireStorm.
Faerie:
Pro:
1.5K mana ; Auto-Fly ; Auto-Sneak
Con:
Extreme low HP's. ; Low STR/weight capacity ; No Faerie Fire/Fog ; Tiny Size
For me the Superior race is Avian.
Because it can beat both Human and Elf in terms of HP/Mana points, as long as you train from 1 practice. Having 800 base HP is quite good for a Invoker.
Air vulnerability is ... a joke.
If you want my advice, take the Faerie Invocker, it will make your learning quite a low speedier. You dont need to find the Mana gear, and can focus on HP's gear/Armor.
Thieves are thieves, and most kills will come from you getting the Drop on them. Few can take 3 Hellstreams. 1º Free, 2º while they panic and type flee, 3º when you follow the flee and land the killer blow in another room.
Also a tip for someone new to invockers. Ignore Hurricane, a Hellstream will do more damage than two Hurricanes. Less mana cost and chance to Blow stuff.
Air vulnerability is ... a joke.
disagree, air lance is in like allll the time.
Faerie Invoker can have nice HP if you find the right gear - I had 1200 HP with my Faerie Invoker and still had the potential to push that a little further, and that was just from +hp EQ.
The low STR you don't really notice after a bit, with an Invoker specifically.
With the point about protective shield falling, that won't be an issue 99% of the time (excluding fighting Necromancers/Berserkers) provided you keep a check on your affects list, and use the cancellation spell. The relatively few times you will be caught without protective shield will likely be the same regardless of whether you're a Faerie or any of the other invoker races - you're probably going to be bashlocked to death.

Any magic vuln vs invoker is worthless, since they have mana shield. And 23 dex will help you out in bashlocks, maybe only a little, but still.
Why cant half-elves be invokers or battlemages or clerics? Both humans and elves can...
I prefere Gnome to be honest, Five practices per level and only one practice to learn a skill is quite the bonus at 50, Along with small perks they are good rivals to the 'Neutral' avian.

Yeah, but they're fragile - even a toddler could break one of these apart wielding any basic melee weapon:
Oh, you didn't mean garden gnomes...

Anyone who has played a few invokers will probably agree that mals are your problem, plague, poison, insomnia, visitation, dysentary, any of those can seriously wreck your day. So you will be applying more saves towards mals than anything. The gnome mental vuln (if it still exists) will force you to gather more mental saves too, therefore lowering the amount of hp and mal saves you can use since you will be needing to cover all your weaker points. So I still say fae is a better choice. I have pinned a Fae voker, gnome voker, 2 drow, and one elf. Drow is just more fun from an rp point given their social structure, but for overall power, it is faerie.
Yes I agree with Faerie's being the logical choice if you want to be good align, But I would not agree Faerie's are newbie friendly, as equipment is a biggy with that low base hp.
I would choose gnome if I wanted to be in Watcher and Faerie for Knight and so fourth.
Mals you say? Lamian stave ftw.
There are not nearly enough charges in that thing, and it is rather hard to get ahold of alot of the time, heralds usually hoarding ![]()
Actually, I found that you don't need to have too many saves as a gnome. As a voker, you throw out insanely large amounts of damage at such a short time you'll prolly kill the nutter before slow damage over time spells will kill you. Then you just run to a healer and heal yourself before it really starts hurting. As a voker, I found classes like shamans or Clerics to be pretty easy.
