I can use my laptop to connect from home using zmud. On campus with a better connection, I cant connect. Is there some kind of built in firewall type thing stopping me when i am on campus or something like that. If I use the schools computers, I can fire up telnet and play, but not zmud from my own computer.

Did you try telnet from your Laptop at school ?
If there is a firewall blocking it, there are normaly ways to tunnel throught it.
I dont know any, but someone more IT savant can tell you.
Or just drop by the IT students department and ask for help.
I am sure all thos IT students will help you.
'It might be that the VPN of your college doesnt allow zmud for some reason. Like mine blocks all p2p and stuff like that, you can find ways around it, but its better to just ask IT.
Telnet clients are not well-known, and therefore considered insecure by LOTS of programs. The firewall is probably killing it, like everyone else said, talk to the IT people, and maybe they can make an exception for you, considering there's no info transfer(I don't think) through clients.

You'd be correct in that... Vista does not come out of the box with the telnet client. You would have to download the actual telnet file from microsoft if you would really need it. I've tried and it was a bit more of a headache than it was worth for what I was going to use it for. Wouldn't suggest trying to get it unless it was absolutely imperative and even then I'd try to find another way... just too much hassle.

In essence, gmud, zmud, etc. are telnet clients. They just have a load of extra features.
