con loss

I am not talking about condition I am talking about the stat. Is it 4 or 5 deaths does one lose one point?

EFFECTS OF DEATH

Although you are able to reincarnate and live again after a short time

as a ghost, this reincarnation process is not perfect. Some of your

health is lost for every five times you die. Your body can only withstand

so much reincarnation. You will permanently die without a chance of

reincarnation after your condition worsens after too many deaths. If you

have lived an outstanding life, you may prove your worthiness to the

Immortals by completing a quest to improve your condition when in danger

of permanent death.

Read 'help death'.

Out of curiosity - why is this? Can't it be coded to kill off your char after *x *deaths, without the con penalty? Just curious as to why this penalty is there...

To make people care about death. And it makes logical sense.

So that there is an added negative of taking a lot of deaths, above just being closer to perma death. Check 'help constitution' and see what else it affects other than hpgain/level. Someone with 40+ deaths is going to have a body that's in a really awful state compared to someone who has yet to die, and the loss of con points is a reflection of that.
