I've shrugged off plague, poison with -20 mal. I'm been ministered with -40something mental
Spell Type
Plague/poison is not as hard to cast, or hard to protect against as Minister. Plague/poison also doesn't take as much mana as minister to cast.
So...how hard something is to do makes it easier to do?
Sigh......poison and plague can be cast at lower ranks correct? Minister is towards the higher ranks. Lower level spells, easier to protect against. Higher level spells, harder to protect against. Understand?
Ok...so why doesn't something that is high level, like say Spellkiller do more damage than chop? If a 50 cleric casts poison he casts it at level 50. Same as minister. Minister is just retardedly easy to land. If minister really is easier to land because you get it later then that is a huge balance issue.
It is not a balance issue. Your statement that spellkiller should do more damage than chop is also wrong. Spellkiller, which is better than counter, therefore deals less damage than counter, should never do more damage than chop. Chop is, along with the four other attacks, a staple skill of blademasters. It is meant to hit hard. Spellkiller is meant to counter spells.
I love how whenever I bring something up the only argument is "no it is not." Your argument is completely void in my mind because even if it is better than counter, it still doesn't hit as hard. Minister lands almost 100% of the time whether or not you are stacked to save against it. That's a fact. Now if it is said that it ignores saves, I would understand why it always lands. But fact of the matter, Minister is a global bodyslam minus the damage. At least you can get out of the way of bodyslam. In my mind minister is the single nastiest spell in the game because you are either lagged out and they land another 3 paths on you (another retardedly strong prayer MASSACRES through sanc) or they are half way across the world when you decide to stop listening to the voices in your head. I realize clerics need something (not a third of what they do have in my mind) but they are immune to bashing/bodyslams, have the a lag skill as a C/C, can heal like no other except Healers, and can drop the friggin boom with Path. Oh and yeah, they have an AOE prayer too.
PS. Spellkiller is a staple skill of BLMs. No one else has it for a reason.
Then roll up a cleric and own the pbase with it...Clerics have a terrible time with rangers, blademasters, and anything that can deal any sort of quick damage. Invokers are tough, Battlemages can be difficult.
And to top it all off, if you don't dress the cleric properly, (hit/dam or saves or hp/mana) then you'll get beat down.

Precisely. Its not as easy as minister and path path path. It used to be, but no longer. Ever thought that the person you were fighting might have had an item that puts up spell level? Maybe YOU were wearing something that takes down your mental level? either would make minister alot harder to save against.
I've never had a problem vs minister. The most it ever set me back was that I couldn't dirt right on the tick so the cleric could.
I can't say I ever died from sanc falling while I was ministered.
Clerics can be played strong - and they can be played weak. Most of all, they are a very limited class in what they can do to you and if you take appropriate steps to pull their fangs before you face them you really wont have a problem in direct combat.
The problem isn't in beating up clerics - its in actually killing them.
L-A
EDIT: Minister cannot actually kill you either because it does not deal damage. Plague and poison on the other hand....
