Monk Weapons

Might be a stupid question, but because Monks have a different kind of parry to everyone else and they use their hands, how critical is it for a Monk to master weapons? I really want to play a Monk, but I hate training. So if not training weapons makes a noticable difference to a Monk, I'll play something else (I hate playing characters where I feel they aren't performing as well as they should be because they aren't trained in critical areas).

Is it just the same as a regular parry as far as knowledge in other weapons is concerned?

This may sound weird.

But if there is a big difference between a skill (or set of skills within a class) at 75% and a skill at 100% that take(s) a long time to master, I'd rather play another class, because I feel as though my character wouldn't be operating at good as it could be - I like to feel as though I have done everything in my power to bring a character to their optimum level in training, so that I can rely solely on myself in PK. But I hate training, so I generally stick to classes that don't need much training so I can avoid the problem of thinking, "Man, I'm playing a class that needs a lot of training to be effective, and I haven't done that training, I'm not going to be doing as good as I can be."

It's why I play a lot of Paladins - Paladins really don't need much training at all as most of it comes straight through ranking, and so when I hit pinnacle, I have that feeling of that the only way my character can suffer downfall is due to things within my control (PK tactics) instead of both that and luck.

Monk weapons training make a big difference. Sorry to say mate but it does. You have less hps than than the big melee types and you that edge keeps you alive a lot longer. Unless you have better eq than they or just are quicker, fighter a mediocre PC warrior will be an uphill battle. Unless you plan on just running when the big melee types come.

Time to take a Gnome Invoker with the Sickly perk then..

I might suck, but at least I can suck and at the same time, be proud in the fact that I have never once played a Healer.

Ugh, are you kidding? Gnomes train fast enough as is...besides, I don't think the sickly perk is worth it.

edit: If you really want to train some weapons, do them as an adventurer, that way you have second/third attack.

Yes, I am kidding.

But I probably would take sickly perk with a Gnome Invoker anyway, even though like almost EVERYTHING for an Invoker is trained through ranking. I'm that lazy.

I wouldn't bother. Mastering weapons when you have one attack a round with them is ridiculously time-consuming.

Master everything, it helps a lot.

I don't think he had any intention of fighting with them. I believe he meant more along the lines of knowing your opponent's weapon. And, unfortunately, you will need to train your weapons as a monk. Monk's don't have a lot of room for error, or an extravagant amount of hp, so every parry counts.

wow, that is a really good idea. I never thought of that. I feel like me.

Exactly. Disarming as a monk is the most important thing. You want to force the warrior to use a weapon you don't know that cannot be disarmed. Considering there are a select few weapons a monk doesn't know, none of which defend the greatest, you have an upper edge in forcing them to a limited weapon selection.
