Okay. I dont understand how you can use reds or gyvals when blinded. You are blinded and cant see.
Do you already have to be holding it or what?

To quaff in combat you must be holding it, out of combat it can be in your inventory.
Reds and gyvels can be seen, even when blinded. This does exclude dirt kick and flamestrike though.
Pretty sure you can actually quaff them while blinded by dirt/flamestrike, but it just doesn't do anything.
Well, you can see them when dirt-kicked/blinded by firebreath. But they don't work. 
I distinctively remember going through a mass of gyvels/reds with one of first characters when I was blinded by flamestrike.

none that I know of. Never seen it done. Dirt kick on the other hand
