why cant you read tomes that you've printed from the library unless you're in the library? why else would you buy a print?

Use read , not read tome had the same trouble myself

As in, writing down a note on an item such as a book, giving the book to someone, then them being able to read it by using "read book"? No, that can't be done.

Not a terrible idea. Maybe like scribe tablet ability for heralds or something.

I know martineius used to hand out laws of tribunals like that(Pretty sure), suprised that doesn't work for the library too

I think that would be an awesome feature to add. Allow someone to convert a note to a carryable item, like the tomes in the library. You can print them and carry them around. Not only does it make spying viable, as in, Knight guy prints a Knight only note and Syndicate thief walks up and steals the note and now has intelligence on the Knights, but it would also allow people to keep notes for longer, aka printing a very necessary note so that it doesn't get deleted with all the Herald notes going out.

Oh but the Heralds already know my friend, trust me they know. They have eyes and ears everywhere. shhhh
