Custom Race

Maybe you that have had a race or an imm can help me out with this. I have an idea for a race that I would like to play that would be quite interesting. Under the guidelines, it says that the starting race must be close to that of the custom race. No for my question: What if nothing fits. There is a race close to what the desired race is, but this race is limited to certain classes that dont fit the desired race, or at least the class that I want to be. What do I do then, because any other race would be far off from what I think the desired race would be.

I'd make it a human, then. But I've never had a restring, so my opinion is just short of worthless.

I believe you can also apply to have non-standard classes as well. Though I can't imagine what such an app would look like. I would think though that obtaining such requests would be very, very rare.

well it would be a perfect class for my desired race, but the only race that we currently have that is close to my desired race, cant be that class

In FL, anything is possible. I had a restrung Stone Giant Druid, in addition to tons of other crazy restrings over the years. You can do it too, if you just stick to it and do it well. Its all about the quality of your RP, man. Just apply! See what happens!

How hard is it to get a non-standard class? I've had a few ideas floating around, but never tried to build on them because I see all these adventurers going for non-standard classes and then deleting.

Well, sometimes balance issues get in the way. It is best to try, though. After seeing the Faerie Berserker, I am not sure what cannot be done. Just don't too crazy and try for a FG DK or something!

That makes me happy

As far as custom races go (race re-strings) I think provided your restring fits the sort of attributes/traits that the original race has, it's fine, even if they aren't too similar in terms of appearance or otherwise.

An example here - let's say you wanted to restring to a Wolf.

You could argue that the typical race you'd restring would be Feral. But, Drow could also be a possibility - very dextrous and nimble (reflected by high agility and autosneak), keen, curious and intelligent (high int/avarage wisdom), whilst having to sacrifice a little bit of it's strength/power to maintain it's agility (somewhat low strength/low con). Mithril Vulnerability? Could be some sort of genetic thing part of your strand/breed of Wolf, or some better RPed reason as to why you'd have that vuln.

Drow and Wolf aren't exactly alike, but in that sense, a Drow - Wolf restring could work, even though there is a race that would be perhaps better 'fitting' in respect to how alike they are.

That's just how I have always looked at things, and I've never had any problems. And as somebody mentioned, you could always use Human as a back-up 'Catch all' race to restring - I think currently, there is a Human restrung to a Drider, just as an example.

EDIT: And as far as custom classes and such, if you're going to be using it for PK, I would think very, very carefully about your chosen combination, because it is very likely to be gimped for balance reasons . Or for even RP reasons - case in point, the Faerie Berserker, already a gimped combo, had haymaker/headbutt/weapon cleave/shield cleave/charge/couple more skills removed - imagine a Faerie trying to do any of those?

It will take some time and effort to get anything like that though.

Well this would be near 90% for the rp of it that I can think of straight off. I dont immagine anything that I am trying to make better just for the pk aspect of it.

If your idea fits a race in terms of it's traits and attributes, but might not be quite like the race in terms of appearance or whatever, I say go for it. Obviously, a hulking huge Golem restring won't work for a halfling, due to actual differences in attributes, but otherwise you should be fine - Drow DK restrung to Chimpanzee DK, for example, is certaintly not going to change the PK balance of anything and the two are arguably similar.

The other route would be to pick the race that is very similar to what you'd restring to, apply for the restring, then apply to become a class - undoubtedly a lot more work involved, than if you could simply pick an alternate race that is somewhat close, that can be that class, and restring it to your desired custom race, because at the end of the day, either way you go, you'll be a , but by going the route of applying for the class with a race that can't be it, you'll be gimped somewhat (likely, anyway).

Well hopefully I got everything sorted out. Im pretty excited so I hope this passes.

all i can say is go for it. as long as you have the rp to back stuff up they will probably try their best to accomidate you, the imms are pretty creative. If they think you can handle it, they will probably accomidate you.

I have to say in FL that not ANYTHING is possible. I have applied for something that was turned down because it was not in FL. I was explained why and explained how to better approach the restring. However just making it clear that not anything is possible.

The worst they can do is say no.

The one thing I did try to restring I just gave up on, I would really really love to see some applications of things that have been approved in the past and the char is dead just so I have at least a bit of an idea what to do. Since the directions to me are kind of vague.

Restring to Siren. Was going to try for a Demon Bard, but just kinda lost interest and time.

The Siren’s song. Described throughout the Ages as a

hypnotic melody, heard by sailors after long journeys at

sea. Said to lure men to their deaths on rocky shoals and

in the murky depths, the song of the Siren is a force that

cannot be defined.

The mesmerizing allure of a beautiful woman is

supposedly irresistible. Calling to men, the power of

beauty is not one to be underestimated. However,

physical appearance is not the only place in which true

splendor can be found. Indeed, such things as music can

hold sway over its recipients as well. To hear a romantic

harmony can bring one to tears, while a lively tune can

compel one to stand up and dance. There is much to be

said, for the power of music. Minstrels and bards… they

do not understand the vast, limitless power of the song.

They string together a series of notes, for the

entertainment of fat old kings, and lazy merchants. They

amuse peasants with tricks and gimmicks, and fail to

represent the true nature of lyrical potency.

This era, in which music has become forgotten, has

reached its end. A new beginning has found its way to

this realm, and I shall be its herald. The Age of Music

has begun.

Another one, this was for a restring to Titanic, or Titan, or whatever.

In an age long forgotten, there were men of good hearts.

In an age long forgotten, men had souls, and they valued

them. They cherished their purity, reveled in the bliss

granted unto them by the gods. Yet dark times fell upon

them. In an ancient world, with ancient deities, shadow

fell upon the realm and evil began to rise. Like a wave

of blackness, the shade of despair, destruction and death

settled over this world, lost. Through the inky midnight,

a golden beam of hope arose. A man rose up above the

satanic pits, and held aloft a single icon. A banner,

waving in the sulfuric breeze, bearing the insignia of a

golden sun. Chosen by the deities of the Light, a

single man, a mere priest, rallied the remaining followers

of the forsaken Light to them. Old men, pregnant

women, and children too young to even think of swords.

Thousands walked up to meet him. Not one strong

enough to wield an axe, or use a glaive. Not a single

man capable of fighting the hordes of demonic

abominations that roamed free throughout the lands.

Refusing to give up hope, this man bowed his head in

prayer, and walked among the masses. Yelling forth an

ancient battle cry, this man led the people of the Light

with them into battle against the hellspawn. Armed not

with blades, but with their prayers, they swept

throughout the realms, and demon after demon howled

with pain, and fell unmoving to the ground. As the

chanting of the crowd grew to a roar, a wave of golden

Light swept forth over the rocky earth, and shattered the

remaining demons. Raising cheers of joy and triumph,

the sickly and healthy, old and young alike began to

weep for joy. However, their tears soon turned to

sorrow. The man toppled from his horse, struck by an

arrow. His soul ascended to the heavens, his body was

burned on an ancient funeral pyre, and thousands came

to see his ashes spread over the far corners of the

realms.

That day, the wind itself seemed to cry out in anguish, at

the loss of such a valiant martyr. However, as

the ashes took flight in the breeze, a feeling of calm

settled over the people. Unsure what was happening,

they collectively looked upward, at the blazing golden

sun overhead. Somehow, they knew, their heroes would

return. When darkness fell upon the land once more, the

the Titanic Priest of the One would be reborn.

-- Prophecy of the Titanic Priest

The titanic? Where the heck do you people get your ideas from? I see a dk dridr (spider), a banshee (undead), recently dey's orc (ogre), squid (illithid)...kinda goes on doesn't it?

Here's Lerris' Echarai application.

Greetings, Mighty Gods.

I invoke your names this day, to seek passage into a

realm largely unexplored by my brethren. In recent

times, we sent one man to investigate the ability of

warriors in this place. Impressed, particularly with those

of the Warmaster Camp, he returned to our tribe with

plentiful stories and new fighting techniques to share.

However, while he was present in Aabahran, he was to

act only as a scout. We, the Echarai Council, sent him to

perform reconnaissance, to ascertain whether the mages

of Aabahran would affect the Balance within our own

land. Early reports presented the Savants as a threat that

would have to be removed. As time wore on, Taeim

presented us with assurances that he was handling the

threat with the assistance of recruits in the Warmaster

Camp, in which he assumed a role as a commanding

officer. Inevitably, however, Taeim grew… for lack of a

better word, homesick. While he is my cousin, and I

love him dearly, as a member of the Council, I must look

out for the whole of our tribe, not just my own kin. And

so the Council has decided that, as the Head of Combat

Intelligence, it would be my own duty to take up Taeim’s

place.

I will not stand in this realm as Taeim was forced to,

under the guise of a simple hobbit. No. I will instead,

display my Echarai heritage proudly. From the Asil’akai

tattoos to my locket bearing the sigil of the Echarai, I

will not hide myself. And so I beseech you, to grant me

passage.

Yours in Honor,

Lerris Canidar
